About this opportunity:

Corporate Development has an engaging opportunity for an Analyst to join their organization. The incumbent will support merger, acquisition, and divestment mandates across all areas of Cenovus portfolio including upstream, offshore, downstream, midstream and sustainability. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting transaction mandates as well as other commercial and capital market intelligence activities.

What you’ll do:

  • Support live and prospective transaction mandates across entire project life cycle

  • Assist in preparing presentations and project updates for Cenovus leadership and governance committees, and build and/or craft sophisticated financial models and conduce economic assessments

  • Coordinate due diligence and Q&A processes, prepare virtual data rooms

  • Coordinate Internal and external resources (Legal, Operations, Development, Finance, Tax, etc.) required for evaluating and driving transaction mandates

  • Analyze financial and operational data, providing insights for potential transactions, as well as maintaining transaction databases, case studies and other market intelligence support activities to guide decision makers

  • Leverage and maintain strong capital markets, macroeconomic and oil and gas industry knowledge

  • Anticipate commercial issues and seek out solutions while incorporating views of internal teams

  • Develop a confirmed understanding of Cenovus’s portfolio and the ability to identify and evaluate valuable opportunities

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally eligible to work in Canada

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the energy business, including corporate development, operations, investment banking, and/or equity research

  • Business or technical undergrad with post-secondary CFA or MBA credentials desirable

  • Strong time management, presentation, and communication skills

  • Familiarity with acquisition and divestment process lifecycle

  • Strong financial modelling skills in oil and gas including project evaluations, competitive analysis, and identification & analysis of new business opportunities

  • Proactive self-starter with strong quantitative and analytical research skills who can anticipate business needs and work under high pressure timelines
