About this opportunity:

The Director of Subsurface is a key leadership role of a department responsible for delivery of the WWR Depletion plan, optimizing production from both the subsea and future platform White Rose wells, while managing the operation phase of well integrity. In addition, the role is responsible for the subsurface technical due diligence of the non-operated Terra Nova JV and recommendation on investment decisions.

As a member of the Atlantic Region Leadership Team, the position plays a central role in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of Cenovus' strategic objectives and operational excellence.

This leader lives the Cenovus values and energizes the department and business while building capability within the subsurface disciplines and integrated business.

What you’ll do:

  • Responsible for input into business safe operations and performance through Well design and execution process, WIMS stewardship, Reservoir management and production optimization of the White Rose Field

  • Steward the continual improvement of the Subsurface Management System and enhance the Subsurface Department's capabilities

  • Steward technology improvements and increase the value of data through specialty digital transformation initiatives

  • Overall leadership of the AR Subsurface Department, Geosciences, Subsurface Production, Reservoir Engineering related fields

  • Supports business objectives by improving digital transformation opportunities to facilitate the business in delivering the next development phase

  • Steward Terra Nova non-operated JV due diligence Subsurface aspects of optimization and investment decisions

  • Build and maintain department competency and improvement of Subsurface Management System

  • Responsible for Geoscience oversight of producing WR pools; South Avalon, North Avalon, North Amethyst, North Amethyst Hibernia, West White Rose, South White Rose Extension

  • Provide support for WWR field development planning and well design, and future operations.

  • Responsible for annual and quarterly production forecasting in conjunction with a focus on increasing field value with rate and EUR optimization

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geoscience or related field; advanced degree an asset

  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in Subsurface fields

  • Strong technical expertise in Subsurface disciplines, including reservoir engineering, production engineering, and geosciences with a thorough understanding of industry standards, regulations, and best practices.

  • Strong depletion planning experience, offshore field development, well delivery, and well depletion plan optimization experience

  • Strong knowledge of well integrity life cycle; design, execution, operation, intervention, and abandonment

  • Experience leading operational subsurface teams in offshore development well construction

  • Experience in well design, including pore pressure and fracture gradient analysis

  • Experience with production optimization as well as identification, evaluation and implementation of improved oil recovery plans

  • Experience with horizontal and extended reach wells, intelligent completions design as applicable to depletion planning and delivery

  • Experience with rift basin developments; i.e., Jeanne d’Arc Basin developments White Rose, Terra Nova, Hibernia, Hebron. Similar international experience, i.e, North Sea offshore developments, is a strong asset.

  • Experience with risk assessment and decision analysis experience

  • Experience with economics and a strong business acumen

  • Knowledge of seismic technologies, including acquisition, processing and interpretation of 3D seismic

  • Knowledge of structural analysis, sequence stratigraphy, petrophysical analysis, probabilistic assessment and risking

  • Knowledge and exposure to offshore operations, facilities, process, subsea, flow assurance, integrity, drilling or completion

  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with PEGNL

While not a core requirement of the role there may be a requirement to travel offshore via helicopter and boat. This is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to offshore pre-placement Fitness for Work assessments, which includes drug and alcohol screening, a CAPP medical and BST/HUEBA testing.
