About this opportunity:

This role will focus on growth opportunities within and around our existing Conventional Heavy Oil Assets. Responsibilities will include identifying leads, regional mapping of opportunities with seismic integration, defining appraisal and land acquisition strategies, monitoring competitor activity, assist in defining acquisition opportunities that fit Cenovus’s business strategy and working closely with the BD team to progress opportunities to a final decision point.

Additional responsibilities would include evaluation of EOR opportunities that fit strategy; assist in building a healthy inventory of new EOR projects to our portfolio.

Requires effective collaboration, high technical competency, problem solving and leadership skills. We are looking to grow our EOR business substantially over the next 10+ years and this position will contribute significantly to reaching Cenovus’s production goals.

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct geological evaluations (screening to in-depth) and mapping of project areas through the integration of various data sets (i.e. core data, logs and drilling/production information)

  • Provide input and recommendations into project strategies.

  • Prepare and present recommendations through a formal review process to senior management.

  • Collaborate closely with reservoir team to screen new EOR opportunities.

  • Drive exploration activities complimentary to existing Conventional Heavy Oil development plans to find, evaluate and appraise future core development areas.

  • Build a strong relationship with the BD team and steward acquisition opportunities as needed.

  • Clearly outline timelines and technical progression of projects from evaluation to development phase.

  • Evaluate land sale postings and provide technical input into bidding strategy as required.

  • Consistently supports team members in executing project deliverables.

  • Prioritizes safety as part of planning and organizing work.

  • Makes good decisions with limited information; demonstrated ability to work with minimal guidance and comfortable dealing with ambiguity.

  • Holds self and others accountable for delivering results safely.

Who you are:

  • Minimum of 12 years of related industry experience, ideally 15+ years

  • Member of APEGA or other Provincial Professional Geoscience Organization.

  • Experience with heavy oil exploitation techniques, Mannville stratigraphy, and regional exploration.

  • Competent in the use of industry software (i.e. Geographix, Accumap, Petrel, Microsoft Suite);

  • Sound knowledge of geology including clastic depositional systems preferably with some exposure to Heavy Oil settings.

  • Demonstrates the ability to understand and operate effectively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.

  • Ability to evaluate regional play opportunities and prospect assessment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable presenting concise assessments and articulating new ideas to Senior levels of management.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
