About this opportunity:

The primary responsibility of the Business Opportunity Manager (BOM) role is to work across Lloyd Thermal (LT) functions to develop, manage, and deliver strategies & projects that improves the value of the asset. BOM functions include articulating business cases for opportunities, collaborating with a variety of teams, progressing projects through the stage gate approval process and capital management of the project portfolio.

Success in this role requires collaborating and building alignment with functional teams that include Sub-surface Development, Asset Development, Well Delivery, Major Projects, and Operations while driving consistency of the BOM functions across projects and the Canadian Thermal and Conventional Heavy Oil assets. Using technical expertise and knowledge of Cenovus processes (resource development, stage gates, capital management, long range planning, etc.) to build robust business cases will be critical to success in this role.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage cases (qualitative and quantitative) throughout the project lifecycle, from initiation to benefits realization, while coordinating with project and scoping managers to communicate changes impacting the case

  • Lead integrated project teams to advance projects before Gate 2B, support the Project Manager post Gate 2B, define objectives and steward projects through capital governance and stage gate approval processes

  • Ensure changes are reflected in capital budgets and obtain corporate approvals for changes that impact PAR level deliverables

  • Manage asset and/or project capital for the budget and business plans by working with Project Managers to ensure spend is in line with project & budget approvals

  • Provide monthly capital forecast updates, incorporating input from planning and project integration, and work with project managers to identify and communicate levers for capital adjustments

  • Objective and comprehensive view of the asset scope and capital for the budget and business plan

  • Manage the business interfaces for assigned asset and projects by maintaining close communication with Project and Scoping managers to ensure risks and interdependencies are understood throughout the project life cycle

  • Work closely with the development teams to increase asset value while balancing other drivers

  • Supporting complex regulatory applications and communicating schedule risks as required

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Licensed Professional Engineer or Geoscientist registered with APEGA

  • 8+ years in an upstream technical, asset development or project management role(s)

  • Experience with capital management and optimizing project value is considered an asset

  • Skilled in all facets of communication and effectively adjusts the level of detail and tone to the audience

  • Ability to facilitate and manage meetings with diverse opinions

  • Collaborative, passionate, versatile and has a diverse technical background with a desire to pull people together to increase the value of projects
