About this opportunity:

Cenovus’ Atlantic Region is seeking a Senior Production or Process Engineer for the St. John's, NL office. As a Senior Production or Process Engineer, you will provide expertise to the Production Operations teams both onshore and offshore. These teams are responsible for the operations of the SeaRose FPSO, as well as the future West White Rose asset.

What you’ll do:

The Production or Process Engineer supports the Atlantic Region onshore and offshore teams, primarily focusing on ensuring safe and efficient production operations. This support extends from the subsea assets/flowlines through to topsides processing and gas handling.

The role supports the offshore and onshore teams with various operational issues, including but not limited to items such as:

  • Optimizing topsides processing equipment efficiency and uptime

  • Alarm and trip management

  • Troubleshooting subsea flow assurance issues

  • Providing production chemical support to ensure optimized dosage, environmental stewardship, and contract management

  • Participation in incident investigations, and risk assessments (HAZOP, PHAs, What ifs)

The Production or Process Engineer also supports the development or updating of procedures and work instructions. The role requires frequent collaboration with other departments such as Subsea Operations, Engineering, Subsurface, Maintenance, West White Rose Operational Readiness and Assurance, and Developments.

This position provides the opportunity to engage in or assume ownership over several forward-thinking systems such as the Online Subsea Advisor (providing subsea leak detection capabilities and hydrate monitoring during both steady state and transient conditions), the Emissions AI program (providing indication of emissions deltas using artificial intelligence), and other exciting projects that embrace Cenovus’ value of Make It Better.

Who you are:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer or eligibility for status with PEG-NL is required.

  • 8-12 years related experience in oil/petrochemical industry - emphasis on flow assurance (multiphase flow) and production chemistry considered an asset but not required.

  • Knowledge of subsea facilities and well operations, including interventions, completions, and workovers.

  • Thorough understanding of production equipment and systems on an offshore installation.

  • Understanding of reservoir behaviors, conditions, and limitations.

While not mandatory, experience in the following areas would be considered an asset:

  • Experience with subsea and/or topsides models or multiphase software (for example, OLGA, HYSYS, Multiflash/PVTSim, etc.)

  • Experience with PVT fluid concepts and/or background in production chemistry

  • Experience with flow assurance analysis and/or previous experience in managing flow assurance studies/scopes with a third-party

  • Experience with gas processing system optimization

  • Programming in Python, Databases, Visual basic

  • Data Analytics and Visualization skills (PowerBI, Spotfire, etc.)
