Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Assistant Superintendent of Transit Vehicle Maintenance, the successful candidate will:

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of multiple wash bays across various facilities, ensuring effective management and coordination of fuelling, fluid checks, cleaning (interior & exterior), and fare box issues (dumping and security) for the transit and non-revenue fleets.
  • Monitor staff performance to ensure daily service requirements are met promptly.
  • Ensure safe operation and oversee the use of all wash bay equipment, ensuring compliance with vehicle operation safety standards.
  • Identify maintenance deficiencies requiring attention for revenue and non-revenue assets.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of cleaning processes and odometer readings using EAM Trapeaze and Odometer readings.
  • Manage manpower needs for daily and weekly requirements, forecasting overtime and replacement worker hours as necessary.
  • Provide reports on repair requirements for wash bay equipment and propose enhancements to streamline processes.
  • Deliver daily work summaries and report potential issues proactively. Maintain knowledge of ATU Collective Agreement, Mississauga Transit operating policies, and relevant legislation.
  • Adhere to company rules, regulations, and safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration or related field strongly preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a large transportation industry.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a unionized environment strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of shop management practices, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of the Environment, and labor legislation.
  • Experience in coaching and developing staff, with strong problem-solving and performance management skills.
  • Diplomatic, firm, and fair approach in addressing maintenance deficiencies and employee relations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with peers and unionized staff.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and technical/analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and storage.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license with a clean driving record acceptable to the City; CZ or DZ license an asset.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and flexibility to work various shifts in a 24/7 operation, including holidays. Shift hours are from 8:00 PM - 4:30 AM and are subject to change
