Reporting to the Facilities Manager or the Lead Building Operator, (dependent on location), the Building Operator has overall responsibility for a regional portfolio of stores, the overall building maintenance and the base building system operations in the assigned stores.
Responsibilities include regular inspections, identifying and troubleshooting issues, performing minor repairs and preventative maintenance, ensuring the smooth operation of the heating and cooling and other base building systems, and ensuring uninterrupted service and a safe, comfortable environment for customers, employees, and the general public. The Building Operator is also responsible for overseeing third-party service providers to ensure they perform their contractual obligations and provide value-added services.
Pay: $55,000 - Starting salary may vary based on local Collective Bargaining Agreement where applicable.

You Also Have:
5th or 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate or provincially recognized equivalent
Minimum 1-2 years experience as a 5th or 4th Class Power Engineer operating boilers/chillers and familiarity with different HVAC systems; working knowledge of BAS systems; and experience with HVAC replacement and other CapEx repair
PC literacy and demonstrated capability with Microsoft Office, Google Documents, etc.
Working knowledge of building operations, structures, engineering systems, architectural features, building codes, and operating regulations for public buildings
Knowledge of generally accepted facilities management principles and practice
Ability to be on-call and respond to emergency situations 24 hours a day
Valid Driver's License, and access to own vehicle
As the Building Operator, You will:
Ensure daily operations are conducted with a strong commitment to customer service
Supervise all third-party service provider activities
Ensure that all work orders are assigned and fulfilled appropriately; ensure value for proposed services and approve or escalate to Facilities Manager/Lead Building Operator for approval; ensure work order notes are current and notify/escalate imminent repairs to appropriate authorities (store general managers or their designate/regional managers, etc.)
Perform and/or ensure routine building and equipment inspections and system testing are performed; and all maintenance logs, asset registers, and vendor service records are maintained and kept current
Ensure full compliance with all Authorities Having Jurisdiction
Ensure compliance with Health and Safety Legislation and Standards
Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed
Ensure the safety of the buildings, staff, and public from fire, flood, and other hazards by ensuring that all mandated tests and inspections are carried out while responding to emergencies and liaising with third-party contractors and trades
Identify deficiencies and proactively provide recommendations for equipment replacement and preventative maintenance, to ensure uninterrupted service
Identify current and future needs of all buildings; identify, prioritize, and recommend required new projects, equipment replacement, or preventative maintenance work on a proactive basis, to ensure uninterrupted service.
Support the Facilities Manager/Lead Building Operator and oversee facilities capital project execution: coordinate, schedule, monitor, and ensure projects are completed on schedule and on budget.
Qualifications
5th or 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate or provincially-recognized equivalent
Minimum 1-2 years experience as a 5th or 4th Class Power Engineer operating Boilers/Chillers, familiarity with different HVAC systems including replacement, repair/adjustments to motors, belts, pumps, bearings, etc.; proficiency with Building Automated Systems (BAS)
Experience with retail or other public facilities is an asset
Working knowledge of building operations, structures, engineering system and mechanical systems, architectural features, equipment function, building codes and regulations for public buildings
Working knowledge of generally accepted facilities management principles and practice
Ability to manage multiple activities/projects simultaneously, work independently, and assess priorities to meet deadlines with attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal skills to promote and sustain positive relationships with internal and external customers, team members, and external contacts
Excellent written and oral communication skills to promote respectful and collaborative relationships and a team environment
Minimum High School diploma or equivalent
Valid Driver’s License and own vehicle and ability to travel between assigned stores
Pass the required security check
This position is results/outcome-based and requires resourcefulness to meet service delivery goals
This position requires “handyman” aptitude (i.e., minor building envelope and systems repairs).
