Shape the Future of Payroll, Pension & Benefits at Medavie


Are you a seasoned payroll leader looking for a role where you can drive process improvements, lead dynamic teams, and make a meaningful impact? Medavie Inc. shared services (Medavie Health Services and Medavie Blue Cross) is looking for a Director of Payroll to oversee all functions and deliverables associated with processing payroll, pension, and benefits for over 8,000 employees, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, organization’s policies, and multiple collective agreements. This is a pivotal leadership position responsible for building and implementing consistent processes to support the growth of the organization.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the Payroll, Pension & Benefits departments, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and regulatory compliance.

  • Supervise a team of four (4) direct reports, including leaders for Medavie Blue Cross Payroll, Medavie Health Services Payroll, and the Pensions & Benefits Manager.

  • Drive consistency across payroll processes within all operating companies and support onboarding of payroll processes for new acquisitions.

  • Develop and implement strategies focused on efficiency, continuous improvement, and compliance with regulations, legislation, and collective agreements.

  • Collaborate with HR and Finance to ensure payroll, pension and benefits processes support broader company goals.

  • Provide insightful analysis and reports to executive leadership to support recommendations to optimize staffing and cost management.

What You’ll Bring

  • Post secondary education in Accounting or Payroll, with a PCP or PLP Certification.

  • 10+ years of payroll, pension, and benefits experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.

  • Previous experience working in an environment with multiple collective agreements.

  • Expertise in payroll taxes, audits, and benefit programs.

  • Skilled in managing the processing of hourly and salaried payroll, bonuses, commissions, and other forms of compensation.

  • Experience with payroll software (Workday preferred) and proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.

  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations and labor legislation.

  • Skilled at articulating complex ideas and issues in a clear and compelling manner to engage and align all stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to establish and nurture strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including fostering partnerships with government entities.

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop teams in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

  • Ability to work under limited supervision using standardized practices and methods.

  • English is requirement, written and verbal, to provide services to our customers and communicate with internal stakeholders. Bilingualism (ENG/ FR) considered an asset.
