The Durham Catholic District School Board is located just east of Toronto and is renowned for providing comprehensive Catholic education to over 25,000 students in 38 elementary schools, 7 secondary schools, and 7 continuing and alternative education centers throughout Durham Region.

The Durham Catholic District School Board invites applications from qualified candidates interested in the following position:

POSITION: Controls Technician

LOCATION: Operations, Maintenance, and Administrative Centre (OMAC), 383 Chaleur Avenue, Oshawa, ON L1J 1G5

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

SALARY: Band 11 ($40.28 per hour)

START DATE: As soon as possible.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the service, installation, operational and preventive maintenance of Building Automation Systems (BAS) in all Board buildings. Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Operations and Maintenance, this individual will install, service, maintain, and repair all types of building automation and control equipment in DCDSB facilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Install building automated and controls equipment; responsible for servicing, repairing, and overhauling the equipment.

Responsible for continuing knowledge of code changes, material, equipment, new products, methods and procedures used.

Troubleshoot, repair and program mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic and energy management control systems, in Board facilities.

Perform preventative, annual and ongoing controls maintenance, testing and correction of all aspects of controls systems in schools and other Board buildings.

Perform programming and scheduling of operations on electronic energy management systems and controllers.

Assist in the performance of mechanical building system commissioning and re-commissioning of new and existing Building Automation Systems and controls.

Assist in the development and implementation of Building Automation operating, sequencing and scheduling standards.

Maintain all required documentation including work orders, vehicle inspection sheets, documentation from purchases and any related logs and forms.

Write, troubleshoot and modify multiple Building Automation System programming languages, including Johnson Controls Metasys and Automated Logic WebCTRL.

Maintain and modify hardware inventories for all building automation, electronic, and pneumatic control systems.

Order new material, replacement parts and other purchases, through the lead hand mechanical department or supervisor/manager.

Work alongside contractors during service visits, repairs and projects.

Collaborate with the other trade technicians to maintain and repair electronic/control devices which integrate with other trades (i.e. HVAC/Plumbing/Security/etc).

Responsible for assigned vehicle and all other Board equipment and tools used.

Be available for emergency call-in as required.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager, Operations & Maintenance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

Current Ozone Depletion Prevention Card.

Completion of relevant college education, or a licensed tradesperson from an associated field.

Electrical Technician - Instrumentation and Control Certificate preferred.

Experience

Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys and Automated Logic WebCTRL

Minimum five (5) years of experience as a licensed tradesperson.

Other Qualifications

Ability to read and interpret drawings, wiring and pipe schematics.

Valid Class G Driver’s License.

Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS.

ArcFlash certificates would be an asset.

Knowledge of Automated Logic and Johnson Controls systems would be an asset.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
