Primary Purpose: Under direct supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor or Department Head, these positions are responsible for conducting sample preparation and analysis using the appropriate analytical methods.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

• Prepare samples for analysis;
• Perform sample extractions according to applicable SOPs and test methods;
• Maintain a neat and accurate record system of work performed on a daily basis and as needed for quality control tests or regulatory purposes.
• Cleaning of labware and decontamination.
• Media preparation and storage.
• Maintain good laboratory housekeeping at all times;
• Perform regular instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration;
• Keep track of consumables inventory and request supplies for ordering, as required;
• Follow the Quality System as documented in the Quality Assurance Manual; and
• Other related duties as assigned.

Job Specifications:

• University degree or college diploma in a microbiology or molecular biology-related field;
• Basic computer literacy – proficiency with MS Office;
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Laboratory safety and WHMIS training;
• Troubleshooting skills required for instrument maintenance;
• Technical knowledge of Ph. Eur. and USP compendial methods an asset.

Working Conditions: This is a laboratory environment with the majority of time spent standing and working at a lab bench. Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate PPE.
