Job Description:

The Analyst, Credit Methodology and Analytics, reports to the Director, Credit Risk Analytics, and is responsible for supporting the development of advanced quantitative credit risk methodologies at Sun Life Financial. The analyst plays a crucial role in the ongoing operational activities of the credit risk team and focuses on the methodology development, production and reporting of risk appetite measures including Credit Earning-at-Risk and Credit Capital-at-Risk. The analyst also dedicates up to 50% of their time to research and development initiatives to enhance the group's quantitative capabilities.

What will you do?

  • Generate and implement quarterly credit risk Earnings-at-Risk (EaR) and Capital-at-Risk (CaR) analysis for total company and business groups

  • Provide analytical support and enhance models on credit risk measurement under IFRS 9 and IFRS 17 requirements

  • Support business stakeholders and perform analysis on the impact of changes on credit risk measurements, evaluating the effects of alternative investment strategies and new classes

  • Assist the Director, Credit Risk Analytics, and team members in establishing and maintaining monthly or quarterly Credit Analytics reports and presenting the results to downstream Business Group users

  • Manage the feed and data collection process, implement ongoing improvements, and ensure data reconciliation and integrity

  • Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation for all processes, assumption changes and parameter specifications of the models/methodologies used in credit risk management

  • Develop tools to automate analysis and reporting processes

  • Work with other credit risk teams to support ad-hoc requests in evaluating the portfolio risk through stress testing

What do you need to succeed?

  • Successful candidates will possess a bachelor/graduate degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Engineering

  • 1-2 years experience in quantitative risk functions in insurance companies, banks, or highly respected consulting firms is strongly preferred

  • Strong communication, presentation, and public-speaking skills

  • Professional qualifications (CFA, FRM, etc.) are considered beneficial

  • Experience in development of credit risk models

  • Strong technical skills including Python, R, SQL, or VBA

  • Good understanding of accounting standards related to the insurance industry, especially IFRS 9 and IFRS 17

  • Familiarity with third-party credit risk applications would be advantageous (e.g., software providers such as MSCI (CreditManager), Moody's KMV, etc.)

  • Strong working knowledge of best-practice approaches related to back-testing, parameter validation, and stress-testing of credit risky assets in a portfolio credit risk context

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
