Job Description:
The Director, Tax and Insurance Planning is accountable for providing complex tax and insurance planning support in the areas of insurance, retirement, estate and business succession planning. The Director works closely with Estate Financial Planning Service (EFPS) representatives, Directors of Advance Planning (DAPs), Regional wholesalers and advisors. Responsibilities include: Supporting advanced sales concepts; developing technical reference material; writing articles and developing materials for presentations at seminars, workshops and industry events; providing tax support to the individual product development process for insurance; and provide tax governance to illustration and product sales strategies.
What will you do?
Consults with advisors and distribution partners on complex tax and insurance planning cases
Support affluent market sales and support the creation of marketing materials required for advisors to learn and apply these concepts
Writes tax and planning articles for industry publications and Sun Life websites directed to advisors and distribution partners
Support the implementation of advisor tools that support the sales of individual life, health and wealth products to affluent clients that meet tax, legal and compliance standards
Analyzes sales concepts, tools and products along with those of the competition to determine strengths and weaknesses as well as potential advantages, while identifying needs for future enhancement and/or development
Participates in industry meetings
Influences the design of new products for individual insurance (life and health) and wealth with respect to their tax effectiveness
Monitor, interpret and communicate the impact of Federal and Provincial tax law on products, administration, advisors and marketing materials.
Develops and delivers sales and technical training presentations to advisors and distribution partners
Provide consulting support to tax administration on specific cases and system modifications to meet compliance requirements.
What do you need to succeed?
Law degree or accounting designation
Tax and estate planning experience
In-depth knowledge of insurance taxation including the impact on products (life, health, annuities, segregated funds, mutual funds), policyholders and Sun Life corporate
Strong presentation skills
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to interact and communicate effectively with senior leaders, industry peers, and Finance officials
Ability to influence business partners and industry peers to ensure that Sun Life’s positions are supported
Attention to accuracy and detail
Flexible to changing priorities and timelines
Energetic and results-oriented
Assets:
Previous experience in life and health insurance sales and/or marketing
CFP, CLU, CHS, TEP
Advanced user of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint
Experience with insurance products across all product categories (life, health and wealth) and related sales strategies
Notes/Unique Requirements:
Some travel may be required

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
