Position: Southern Tutchone Language TeacherStart Date : August 26, 2024GREY MOUNTAIN PRIMARY SCHOOL (GMP) Whitehorse Home to the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta'an Kwäch'än Council, Grey Mountain Primary school is one of 11 Yukon schools that have joined the newly established First Nation School Board (FNSB) in the Yukon. Southern Tutchone is the traditional language of Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta'an Kwäch'än Council people. Grey Mountain Primary school is a K-3 school with approximately 90 students. We are actively seeking committed and qualified educators who are dedicated to living and being an active member of the community. Our educational professionals value authentic relationships and are committed to working with students, community, administration and the FNSB to make positive, progressive changes to education outcomes for learners of Grey Mountain Primary.For more information, please visit the Grey Mountain Primary School and the First Nation School Board website.Qualifications and Experience Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:Completion of Yukon Native Language Centre certification/diploma program or equivalent;Demonstrated language proficiency (read, write and speak) or a desire to learn Southern Tutchone language to deliver the Southern Tutchone language and culture program at the primary level;Demonstrated and on-going commitment to improve language proficiency;Extensive knowledge and awareness of Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta'an Kwach'an Council worldview, traditional practices, values and beliefs as well as a good understanding of the past and current issues in education, heritage and languages with a view to past, the present and the future; NOTE: Candidates who have education, training and/or experience equivalent to the education criteria listed above will be equally considered.Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:Ability to work collaboratively and maintain an authentic relationship with the Kwanlin Dün and Ta'an Kwach'an Council, community members, community Elders, and families, promoting greater community involvement in school-based activities and educational programming; Demonstrated ability to incorporate outdoor-experiential/land-based learning in teaching practice;Solid understanding of a philosophy of inclusive education, excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills working with parents, staff members, coaches, the First Nation School Board and other partners; Demonstrated ability to implement restorative practice and positive behavioral interventions and supports;Demonstrated ability to implement effective support systems to assist at-risk students (e.g., mentorship opportunities, study groups); Demonstrated ability to plan, deliver and analyze in the integration of project-based learning to support curriculum outcomes; Strong understanding and experience with implementing on-the-land curriculum; Knowledge of, and the ability to implement, the science of reading approaches to literacy; Knowledge of, and the ability to implement, developmentally responsive approaches; Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with parents and caregivers, establishing cooperative and authentic connections to support the best school experience possible; Desire and passion for developing and maintaining strong and respectful relationships and trust with students, their families, and the community as a whole.
