Description
The successful candidate will have the ability to work both collaboratively and with minimal supervision under the direction of the Speech Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapist. This position requires an individual who is able to facilitate universal strategies in the classroom as well as individual support to students as needed. They will provide flexible support to students/children according to their changing needs and to facilitate and encourage independence in all areas of student/child development. With a focus on supporting students with speech and language development and occupational therapy needs in junior kindergarten to grade 6, work with older students may be required. As a result, they will work in multiple schools within the division. This position is full-time and follows the school year calendar. Weekly hours are up to 32.5 hours per week Monday to Friday. The Education Assistant will establish effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, parents and the community. A strong background and expertise working with students with a wide range of physical, cognitive, social and emotional differences including: Autism Spectrum Disorder Trauma Down Syndrome medically fragile mild, moderate and severe intellectually delayed ADHD self-care personal assistance are considered assets. Experience working with early elementary aged students with speech and language development and social communication is a strong asset. The ability to work with complex needs teams including collaboration with educational support teams and therapists, such as SLP, OT, and Behavioral Consultants is also an advantage.
