Foothills School Division (FSD) serves the learning needs of approximately 8000 students from preschool to grade 12. We operate 22 public schools, an online digital school, an alternative campus, and three colony schools. These are located in the towns of Okotoks, High River, and Diamond Valley, and the communities of Blackie, Cayley, Heritage Heights, Red Deer Lake, Longview, Millarville and Foothills County.

The Role

We are inviting applications for a Payroll Supervisor to join the Employee Services team on a full-time basis (35 hours per week). The successful incumbent will be responsible for leading and overseeing the monthly payroll function, including but not limited to: processing payroll, benefits and pension administration, collaborating with payroll and human resources staff, and handling payroll related employee inquiries.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled payroll professional who has experience processing, auditing and implementing payroll best practices within an established payroll system. Working within a collaborative HR team, we are seeking a strong payroll practitioner to lead, support and mentor our payroll team of professionals and focus on enhancing the employee experience at the Division. Keeping up to date with latest payroll legislative requirements, be willing to contribute expertise, and being able to prepare, analyze and interpret payroll data, will be key to succeeding in this critical role. Along with the payroll specialists, this role will be responsible for the payroll function that supports over 900 employees under four different collective agreements, as well as an exempt group of employees.

Experience & Education

To ensure success in this role, a minimum of five (5) years' payroll experience is required. Applicants will be required to have either the Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) and/or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) certifications through the National Payroll Institute (NPI). Experience administrating health and wellness benefit programs, the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) and/or the Alberta Teacher's Retirement Fund (ATRF) is a strong asset. The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively within the Microsoft Office suite, including advanced MS Excel skills, which is required.

This opportunity is ideal for a team player, with a high level of accuracy, excellent time management skills, and attention to detail to ensure employees are paid correctly and on time. Additionally, candidates who possess outstanding customer service skills, can communicate payroll processes clearly, address employee enquiries, and handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality, will excel in this position.

Payroll experience within a unionized public sector environment, and experience with the PowerSchool Atrieve Payroll system are strong assets.

This position provides an attractive total compensation package which includes Alberta School Employee Benefits Plan (ASEBP) benefits and a defined benefit pension plan. A hybrid, flexible working arrangement will be supported for this position.
