Detailed Overview

Supervises designated staff and performs nursing procedures within the competency guidelines and standards of practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and the current legislative scope of practice in a community health setting; coordinates the provision of home support services and liaises with Home Health staff, as required.


Responsibilities


  1. Supervises designated staff by assigning work and determining priorities, evaluating and providing feedback on employee performance and evaluations, determining training and orientation requirements and orienting new staff; resolves staffing issues including calling in staff to ensure appropriate staffing levels, where required.
  2. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care to meet the needs of the client in accordance with competency guidelines, established standards of practice and current legislative scope of practice; shares information and knowledge, provides direction, assignment and supervision to unregulated care providers, as appropriate.
  3. Contributes to the development and modification of the client's care plan including attending and providing feedback to the interdisciplinary team around care planning and family conferences; meets with the client to explain home support services and provides emotional support and feedback to clients and their families.
  4. Contributes to the development and revision of standards of care, policies and procedures and advocates improvements in clinical nursing practice, health care and health care services; maintains department standards and procedures.
  5. Visits assigned staff in the client's home to assess the skills and abilities of the staff to meet the client's needs; maintains records of such visit; completes and maintains related records and documentation such as progress reports, observations and client charting; reports and responds to problems such as care issues, complaints, safety concerns by investigating and taking required action.
  6. Performs nursing care and procedures and evaluates client outcomes; records observations and reports problems and/or changes to designated staff for follow up; administers medications at assigned clients according to established policies and procedures, including medication reminders.
  7. Responds to general inquiries by telephone and in person; provides direction and information about available programs and policies.
  8. Assists in the recruitment and selection of staff by reviewing applications, providing input into the development of interview questions and participating on interview panels.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduation from an approved school in Practical Nursing. Two (2) years' recent, related clinical and/or supervisory experience in a community health setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
