Detailed Overview

Under the direction of the designated Plant Service Supervisor at the assigned site, the Maintenance Worker V performs trades related duties approaching the journeyman level in the repair, maintenance, installation and modification of hospital equipment, parts, systems and components. May supervise maintenance workers and other designated staff.


Responsibilities


  1. Carries out preventative maintenance on hospital equipment and systems as directed; alters systems operating parameters and schedules, repairs/calibrates various instrumentation components; performs electrical and mechanical maintenance repairs to heavy duty and other equipment such as pumps, fans, air compressors, autoclaves, washers, sterilizers, oxygen and vacuum systems and kitchen equipment by oiling and greasing equipment and replacing items such as valves bearings, seals drive units, electric motors, fans and pumps.
  2. Answers service and emergency calls for systems such as fire protection, medical air, vacuum and gas and sterilizers, resets systems assesses and performs required repairs and/or call in appropriate staff or contractors.
  3. Install plumbing fixtures and systems and or extends/changes water supply lines and fitting pipes, and assesses and performs repairs to plumbing related equipment.
  4. Constructs walls, doors, windows, ceilings and floors by framing and or applying finishing materials such as wood, drywall, floor coverings, and wood panelling, designs and constructs furniture such as desks and tables.
  5. Performs painting, plastering and decorating by applying paints, plaster and wall coverings.
  6. Supervises Maintenance Workers and other designated staff by performing duties such as scheduling and co-ordinating work assignments, evaluating employee performance and determining related training and orientation requirements.
  7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Grade 10, plus four (4) years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
