Detailed Overview

Reporting administratively to the Manager, Health Services, and clinically to the Chief Physiotherapist, this position assesses, plans, implements, and monitors physiotherapy treatment to patients/residents. Delegates components of treatment to Assistants/Aides. As part of the interdisciplinary team, acts as a resource on issues relating to areas of physiotherapy expertise. Participates in development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical physiotherapy practice, including philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, continuous quality improvement and risk management of the physiotherapy services.

This position is a multi-site position, providing services to both MSA and MMH hospitals.


Responsibilities


  1. Provides clinical physiotherapy treatment, including, assessment, problem identification, setting treatment goals, treatments and re-evaluation of patients/residents. Educates patients/residents and their families in aspects of the physiotherapy treatment. Obtains patient/resident history from chart, interviews and observation, as well as information provided at patent/resident conferences and team meetings. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, makes recommendations for treatment, to ensure quality patient/resident care.
  2. Delegates components of treatment to Assistants/Aides by instructing, observing and monitoring treatment provided to ensure quality patient/resident care. Provides input to the Chief Physiotherapist for the performance evaluation of the Assistants/Aides
  3. Promotes awareness of good body mechanics to facility staff, patients/residents and families by methods such as modeling, making presentations and acting as a resource to staff, patients/residents and/or families by providing information and answering questions related to physiotherapy.
  4. Maintains patient/resident records, clinical outcome measures and statistical data in accordance with department, facility, and professional standards.
  5. Participates in development, implementation, and evaluation of the physiotherapy service by providing input and feedback to the Chief Physiotherapist regarding philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, continuous quality improvement, and risk management.
  6. Participates in interdisciplinary, departmental and professional development to ensure awareness of current developments of evidence based physiotherapy practice.
  7. Provides instruction, feedback, and supervision to students as required.
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduate of an approved school of Physiotherapy from an accredited university. Current full registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC and eligible for membership in the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC).

  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in a complex health care environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize when referral to another health care professional is required.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate physical therapy treatment.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC standards for practice of physical therapy.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with conflict situations.
