Detailed Overview
Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor or delegate, performs skilled plumbing work at the journey person level in the installation, alteration and repair of plumbing systems. Installs, alters and repairs medical gas, oxygen, vacuum, medical air systems; installs, tests, maintains and repairs natural gas lines, appliances, equipment and accessories; and inspects and tests cross connection and back flow prevention systems.
Responsibilities
- Reviews work requests and consults with user departments to arrange work schedules and discuss specifications and other project requirements.
- Interprets blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine material and equipment requirements.
- Calculates materials and labour to provide cost estimation of project and makes recommendations as necessary.
- Prepares for work project by confirming work schedule with user department and assembling supplies, tools and equipment.
- Installs, alters and repairs plumbing, medical gas, oxygen, vacuum and medical air systems in accordance with applicable codes and regulations, by performing duties such as bolting, soldering and caulking.
- Installs, test, maintain and repair natural gas lines, appliances, equipment and accessories in accordance with applicable codes.
- Inspects and test a variety of cross connection control devices such as pressure reducers, back flow assemblies, double check valve assemblies and pressure vacuum breaker assemblies, using equipment such as; dead weight testers, water columns, mercury and manometers and differential gauges.
- Repairs and/or replaces items such as pipes, valves and fixtures by cutting, bending, threading and assembling.
- Carries out the plumbing preventative maintenance program by inspecting piping systems, and other plumbing fixtures for repair and maintenance needs and for conformance to applicable codes and regulations.
- Assigns work tasks to designated staff, when required and provides related orientation and training, when necessary.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies, equipment and tools; completes related records and reports; makes recommendations for purchase.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate as a Journeyman Plumber, Class B level Gas Fitter's License with an electrical endorsement recognized by the Province of B.C. Valid Certificate of Competency as a Cross Connection Control Specialist issued by the American Water Works Association, British Columbia Section.
Two years' recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
