Role Summary

Reporting to the Landscape Manager, this position has an overall responsibility for supervising a shift in the Landscape Department in cooperation with the Landscape Manager. This role provides guidance and direction to Colleagues and assists with the maintenance and development of property grounds to ensure a pleasant appearance. The Landscape Supervisor’s overall responsibility is to oversee and assist with general gardening, monitoring of irrigation systems, and set up and maintenance of winter activities across the resort.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily department operation, including start of shift briefings, role assignments and follow up
  • Schedule, and maintain garbage removal and snow activity across resort
  • Ensure daily checks are completed throughout the Nature Preserve trails and that the trails are maintained and free and clear of debris
  • Grooming of the beach area as well as ski trails and assist with maintenance of the ice rink
  • Serve as an individual contributor and department role model by performing technical or functional job duties
  • Assist with maintenance of wayfinding signage across the resort ensuring it is in good condition
  • Assist in maintaining environmental safeguards
  • Schedule and conduct regular inspections of building exteriors and surrounding landscape
  • Ensure general logs are maintained and daily activities are properly documented
  • Address guest concerns, requests, or issues either individually or by enlisting the help of others
  • Oversee and assist with seasonal landscaping activities including the skating rink clearing and maintenance and cross-country ski track settings
  • Assist with seasonal plantings and decorations for Resort Association and Developer owned assets and amenities
  • Gravel surface grading and restoration and general landscape material shunting using heavy equipment
  • Power washing of buildings, hard pavement surfaces
  • Monitor operation of irrigation systems and watering of areas without irrigation including beds, planter boxes
  • Monitor and maintain condition of playground and sports areas including basketball court, tennis court
  • Maintenance of concrete pavers (replace and relevel)
  • Operate and maintain a variety of maintenance equipment such as cord trimmer, mower, snowblower, side by side, backpack blower, chain saw etc.
  • Assist in creating and facilitating training to Colleagues
  • Coach and counsel Colleagues on work related concerns and issues to ensure satisfaction and productivity
  • Collaborate with leader to develop and carry-out ideas and procedures to continuously improve department performance
  • Ensure that department goals are communicated, understood, and met by Colleagues
  • Assist in preparing and presenting performance management documentation to Colleagues
  • Assist in preparing work schedules and payroll, ensuring accuracy
  • Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program
  • Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in grounds maintenance and gardening
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Previous experience using small landscape equipment including but not limited to; line trimmer, backpack blower, small had tools, skid steer, push mowers, golf cart, power washer and other equipment as assigned
  • Previous experience using large landscape equipment including but not limited to: ¾ tonne pickup truck with snow blade and salter, large all-wheel drive loader and tractor with bucket/blade/snowblower
  • Residential irrigation knowledge an asset
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills
  • Must be computer literate. Preferred candidate will have previous experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be extremely responsible with integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • A valid Canadian driver's license is required (a satisfactory driver's abstract is required as a condition of employment)

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Majority of work is outdoor through all seasons in all weather conditions
  • Required to move, lift, carry, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, and pulling
  • Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces
  • Significant exposure to varying weather conditions
  • Will encounter obnoxious smell from wastewater, gasoline, and diesel fuels
  • Will encounter hazardous materials, dangerous or toxic substances and chemicals
  • May encounter excessive noise from engines and equipment
