Educational Assistant

Part Time (16.25 hours per week)

Position: An Educational Assistant is required to assist students with severe social/emotional behavioral challenges and complex learning needs.

Duties to Commence: Immediately or as mutually agreed upon.

Qualifications & Duties:

Committed to being a model and witness to Christ-centered education values and beliefs.

Apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students, and support the Division’s goals towards advancing Truth and Reconciliation.

Completion of the Education Assistant Program at MacEwan University or equivalent post-secondary training is an asset.

Knowledge and experience working with diverse learners who are on the autism spectrum is required.

Specialized training in behaviour, such as Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training or equivalent is required.

Work directly with the teacher in maintaining a safe and secure environment for both students and staff through the application of de-escalation strategies and non-violent physical intervention techniques.

Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed care, including the ability to recognize, respond, and support individuals in a compassionate, non-judgmental manner, maintaining an environment of safety and trust.

Ability to actively de escalate a student during incidents of dysregulation.

Ability to work with a student that requires intensive supports in communication.

Ability to work with a student that requires intensive supports in behaviour.

Ability to reinforce appropriate behaviours through calm actions and patience.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a strong, interdisciplinary team.

Experience with assisting with the implementation of student Individual Program Plans.

Physically able to engage/assist with safety plans.

Experience assisting with the implementation of positive, proactive behavioural interventions including competence using specific strategies such as visual supports, sensory supports, reinforcement schedules, teaching problem-solving skills, social stories, etc.

Willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) daily.
