The Lax Kw'alaams Band is seeking a full-time experienced School Counsellor who will be an integral part of our school-based team. This position will provide direct social-emotional, academic and career-vocational counselling and consultation to students (elementary, secondary and adult), their families and supporting staff.

Education, Experience and Knowledge:

A Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Education Psychology or Counselling Psychology.

BC Teacher Certification and member of the Teacher Regulation Branch preferred

Teaching experience at the elementary or high school level is an asset.

Demonstrated skills and knowledge in counselling children and part of the School Based Team.

Demonstrated Knowledge and Experience in Trauma Informed Practice.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Proven record of professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, dependability, and reliability. Strong communication skills.

Highly motivated and able to work independently; must be able to schedule and prioritize work.

Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.

Able to deal with people sensitivity, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.

Proven ability to establish open, trusting and respectful relationships with youth.

Personal attributes include caring, compassion, empathy and sensitivity.

Experience working with First Nation children, adults and families.

Innovative, creative, team player and resourceful.

Clear Criminal Record Check working with vulnerable populations.
