The Coding and Data Quality Lead provides oversight to the activities and accountabilities of the coding data quality team, which has a mandate to ensure coding data integrity and quality, in the context of foundational Canadian coding standards, and the strategic importance of coding data which determines MOHLTC hospital funding and provincial service accountability agreement compliance. This position is the lead subject matter expert (SME) with respect to coding standards, processes and procedures. This accountability includes oversight of training content development and delivery, of coding processes and procedures to coding staff, and of clinical documentation comprehensiveness and specificity standards to physicians. The Coding and Data Quality Lead has oversight for coding software and data quality software administration and troubleshooting, as well as coding submission administration and compliance.


Qualifications

1. Graduate of Health Information Management College program
2. Active certified member of Canadian Health Information Management Association
3. Minimum five (5) years of experience coding in acute care setting
4. Minimum five (5) years of experience in data analytics
5. Minimum of three (3) years of experience with technical abstracting systems in an acute care setting
6. Minimum of one (1) year of experience with CIHI data submission
7. Thorough knowledge of ICD10 and CCI Classifications, CIHI DAD and NACRS Abstracting Manuals, Canadian Coding Standards, MOHLTC directives and funding methodologies
8. Demonstrated leadership skills to influence change, critical thinking with attention to detail, sound decision making
9. Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize and multi-task in a constantly changing environment maintaining a professional attitude
10. Experience with Health information systems (HIS), preferably EPIC
11. Knowledge of Rehabilitation, Complex Care, and Cancer Care Ontario Coding procedures considered an asset
12. Advanced knowledge of MS Office programs; MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
