The Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner (NP) will work collaboratively with the surgeons, hospitalists and the interdisciplinary team to provide advanced nursing care and perform medical acts to support populations of elderly patients with fractured hips and other orthopeadic complications. The NP will be responsible to support fractured hip patients during their pre and post-operative phase of care and coordinate this care among multiple services.   A specific focus will be related to discharge planning and progressing care. The NP will address and support length of stay, patient flow and enhancing care to this population.  Dedicated non-clinical time will be supported for academic education, leadership and research within the domains of the NP role. 
The NP reports to the Program Director and the Chief of  Interprofessional Practice  


Qualifications

1. Current certificate of registration or eligibility for registration with the College of nurses of Ontario in extended adult class category 
2. Completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing or a recognized equivalent graduate program
3. Minimum of 5 years recent clinical nursing experience in Geriatric care preferred
4. Previous clinical experience managing complex modality and Orthopeadics patients
5. GNC (C) Certification would be an asset
6. Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
7. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team
8. Demonstrated ability for independent action, initiative, problem solving, organization and prioritization
9. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt positively to constantly changing clinical situations
10. Demonstrated clinical research expertise
11. Knowledge and experience in quality improvement, change theory and adult learning principles
12. Effective organizational, conceptual and leadership skills
13. Effective advanced skills and competencies in interpersonal relations, critical thinking and problem solving and negotiation and conflict resolution
