Prosthetics Technician

The P&O Registered Technician role is integral to the fabrication of custom prostheses and/or orthoses.  Technicians work closely with clinical staff in the design and are responsible for the physical creation of the device, which may involve working with various metals, plastics, foams, and the use of CAD software.  Our technicians may assist in evaluation appointments and are involved in after care follow up/maintenance of the device. 


Qualifications

1. Successful completion of the Prosthetic and Orthotic Technical Program at George Brown College.
2. Registered Technician Prosthetics (RTP) status with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada. Registration in both Prosthetics and Orthotics (RTPO) is considered an asset.
3. Registered Technicians Orthotics (RTO) applications must be seeking an opportunity to achieve dual registration status.
4. Non-Registered applicants must demonstrate commitment to achieve Orthotics Prosthetics Canada’s RTP registration status and achieve this within 2 years of their start date.    
5. Demonstrated knowledge and experience (within the last 5 years), in the ability to fabricate custom prosthetic and/or orthotic devices using established standards, policies or procedures.
6. Self-directed, flexible, independent technician who is also able to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
7. Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholder groups including patients, families, support staff/caregivers, and other members within the circle of care.
8. Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to make adjustments to meet urgent deadlines.  
9. Demonstrated ability to perform repetitive bending, reaching, pushing, lifting and fabrication techniques using appropriate body mechanics.
10. Demonstrated knowledge of patient and workplace safety procedures/protocols with the ability to apply this knowledge in multiple settings.
11. Demonstrated interest and commitment to supporting student education. 
12. Demonstrated commitment to being involved or leading initiatives that improve patient care, education, workplace health & safety and research.
