JOB OPPORTUNITY NOTICE

ESL & LINC Night School Supervisor

Temporary Contract (covering a Leave of Absence) Immediately to December 20, 2024 (with possibility of extension)

Hourly rate $35.70/hour

Reporting to the Principal of Continuing Education and the ESL & LINC Program Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible to work in collaboration with the ESL & LINC Program Supervisor to supervise the Adult ESL night school at City Learning Centre. The incumbent will provide supervision for language training programs, learners, instructional and administrative support staff. The incumbent may not supervise staff who are part of a union of which the incumbent is also a member.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Supervise staff and learners at night school according to established policies and procedures

Support making coverage arrangements when instructors or site coordinators are absent

Support learner attendance policies and HARTs data entry

Support the delivery and implementation of staff development and/or training at night school

Hours are Monday and Wednesday and/or Tuesday and Thursday 4:45 pm to 8:45 pm - either 8 or 16 hours/week. Indicate availability for either one or both shifts.

Qualifications

Strong problem solving, organizational, and analytical skills

Excellent interpersonal, client service, and conflict resolution skills

Excellent computer skills including use of HARTs or other databases, Microsoft Office, and shared document platforms (OneDrive)

Demonstrated experience providing exemplary service to a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders in the settlement sector with strong knowledge of government services for newcomers in Hamilton

Working knowledge of Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA)

Previous supervisory experience in a similar educational or human services organization is preferred

TESL Ontario OCELT certification and/or experience teaching and/or assessing learners in settlement language training programs or providing related client services in the settlement sector is an asset
