We are inviting fully licensed (BCCNM) Practicing Nurse Practitioners with Primary Care experience to apply and be part of a casual pool of Nurse Practitioners, whose purpose is to provide short-term, temporary coverage when needed to support an Interior Health’s regularly employed Nurse Practitioner during vacation or leave of absences.

As a Casual NP your position will be centrally based in the Professional Practice Office and reports to the NP Director. The Casual NP will be deployed to practices that match competencies and experience with a focus on rural and isolated/smaller sites/facilities where clients have limited service when the incumbent NP is away from their practice.

Shifts offered to a Casual NP will typically be Monday to Friday as required, although some clinics may offer Saturday shifts. The Casual NP may be expected to be on-call.

Salary Range: Salary range for the position is $74.74/hour - $82.21/hour. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant.

Key Responsibilities:

Diagnosis and Treatment: Assess and diagnose undifferentiated diseases and conditions, provide treatment, and prescribe medications in line with the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice and regulatory standards.

Care Management: Monitor ongoing care, order diagnostic investigations, interpret results, and develop tailored treatment plans to optimize patient outcomes.

Patient Communication: Establish care priorities, provide follow-up treatment, and communicate effectively with patients and families about diagnoses, care plans, and prognoses.

Collaboration and Consultation: Work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to assess, diagnose, and create individualized treatment plans. May also admit and discharge patients as per organizational policies.

Prescribing Medication: Prescribe medications within legal and regulatory guidelines, ensuring the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical treatments.

Leadership and Supervision: Lead and guide other nursing and healthcare personnel. Provide education, supervision, and performance evaluations to support professional development.

Research and Innovation: Contribute to research aimed at enhancing patient care and advancing nursing practices. Participate in initiatives to influence healthcare policies and population health strategies.

Health Promotion: Lead health promotion activities and screenings, focusing on at-risk populations to prevent illness and promote well-being.

Education and Mentorship: Facilitate interdisciplinary education through case presentations, mentoring, and collaboration in clinical and community settings. Support continuous learning and knowledge sharing.

Policy Development: Develop, implement, and evaluate policies related to nursing, interdisciplinary care, and health system practices.

Palliative and Long-Term Care: Serve as the most responsible provider for patients in palliative, hospice, and long-term care settings when required.

Safety and Compliance: Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Ensure compliance with training and incident investigation protocols.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as necessary to support patient care and organizational goals.

Qualfications
Education: Master’s degree in Nursing (NP) or equivalent.
Certification: Current Nurse Practitioner certification with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives; OAT Certification is preferred.
Experience: Previous experience in a clinical or healthcare setting, with the ability to diagnose, treat, and manage patient care is considered an asset. Willingness to travel and provide in-person locum coverage is required.
