Position Summary
Interior Health is hiring a permanent full-time Respectful Workplace Advisor who is passionate about making a difference in healthcare.

Salary range for the position is $67,861 to $97,550. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you create an impact:

The Respectful Workplace Advisor (Advisor) is responsible for intake, triage assessment, process determination, and implementing appropriate alternate dispute measures to support concerns to resolution.

The Respectful Workplace Program (RWP) aims to provide Interior Health managers and employees with a range of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services and training to effectively manage workplace conflicts, and to promote a culture of respectful dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding.

The Advisor uses knowledge that requires that the application of trauma-informed approaches and inclusive, culturally safe practices, and understands Truth and Reconciliation and key documents that support organizational transformation to one of cultural safety and humility. Documents include but are not limited to, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, the In Plain Sight Report, the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Calls to Justice, The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples BC Act.

What will you work on:

• Acts as a central point of contact for employees and managers who have identified a need for assistance in resolving respectful workplace issues with others in the workplace. Provides interpretation and support of the AU1000 - Workplace Environment Policy, Guidelines, related processes and procedures, and relevant legislation.
• Provides consultation, utilizing a trauma-informed approach, established procedures, and interviewing skills to draw out complainant concerns and identify the underlying issues for the
• purpose of determining the appropriate conflict resolution approach for managing concerns to resolution or referral to the Respectful Workplace Consultant.
• Provides interpretation to managers and HR partners regarding applicable human rights and other legislation, the AU1000- Workplace Environment Policy, cultural safety, anti-racism, and collective agreement provisions related to bullying, harassment, and discrimination, including risk assessment, dispute resolution and approaches to resolve as required.
• Maintains confidential and up-to-date case files and escalates referrals to the Respectful Workplace Specialist or to third party conflict resolution providers where appropriate. Provides case file support to related grievances, appeals, tribunals in relation to bullying, harassment and discriminatory harassment files as required.
• Maintains the centralized workplace environment and alternate dispute resolution intake, triage and case assignment and management reporting systems. Performs trending and analysis of workplace environment and alternate dispute resolution data and information and prepares related cyclical or ad hoc reports for HR and IH senior leadership and the IH Board.
• Provides information to managers and staff on respectful workplace concepts, behavioural expectation. Participates in the delivery of training and education to IH managers and staff, working collaboratively with HR colleagues to support a positive, respectful, and culturally safe work environment.
• Supports program enhancements and program related policies, procedures and education as needed to reflect changes in regulatory requirements and best practice.
• In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, adheres to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to the manager or supervisor immediately.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualfications
Education, Training and Experience

• An undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or Social Sciences.
• Minimum of three (3) years of recent related experience in workplace investigation and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, preferably in a health care or other complex unionized setting.
• Certification in, or completion of accredited Mediation Skills, Conflict Coaching and/or Workplace Conflict courses.
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of conflict resolution and alternate dispute resolution, and application of trauma-informed approaches and inclusive, culturally safe practices.
• Self awareness of internal bias.
• Knowledge of investigative procedures, interviewing techniques, and ability to apply sound judgment, best practices, policy, and legislation to support resolution of workplace environment complaints/concerns.
• Knowledge of human resource and labour relations practices as they relate to respectful workplace, human rights legislation, bullying and harassment legislation, and dispute resolution practices.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation including WorkSafe BC legislation, BC Human Rights Code, Occupational Health & Safety legislation, and various collective agreements.
• Demonstrated respectful communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Facilitation, and mediation skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees in a complex multi-union environment.
• Ability to navigate emotionally charged situations.
• Ability to deliver training and education sessions to large groups.
• Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
• Proficient using MS Office, Word and Excel, Microsoft Teams internal systems and databases. databases.
• Ability to travel to locations throughout Interior Health as required.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
