Description
James Cameron School is seeking a caring, passionate, and progressive teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. Situated in the community of Maple Ridge, James Cameron School is a small non-profit elementary school accredited by the Independent Schools Branch of the Ministry of Education that serves students in grades 2-7. Our school celebrates diversity and addresses the intellectual, social, emotional and physical development of children who have dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities. Instructional Hours: 8:15 2:45p.m. daily
Additional hours: monthly staff meeting, monthly teacher meeting -3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Meet the staff night 3-7 p.m., parent-staff conferences 3-7 p.m. student-led conferences 3-7 p.m.
Year-end program 7 9 p.m.
Duties:
Homeroom teacher:
Includes attendance in MyEducationBC, announcements, check planner, collect notes
Plan and prepare for a good start to every day
Provide inclusive and caring class setting
Teaching assignment includes:
Teaching a subject for a grade level outside of your assigned homeroom: For example, if assigned a grade 3/4 Homeroom you may also teach Gr. 4/5 Socials, Gr. 7 PE, Gr. 6 PE, or Gr. 4/5 Math if needed to ensure planning periods for all teachers
Plan and prepare year overview for each of the above subjects, as per requirements laid out by Independent Schools Branch of the Ministry of Education.
Plan and prepare daily plans as set out in overview
Be familiar with each students individual needs as set out in the assessments and the IEP
Be prepared to make suggestions and apply recommended accommodations for each student
Be prepared to work closely with EA assigned to class, to work with other professionals as required (counselor, O/T, S/L P etc.) and follow recommendations
Be prepared to work closely with other staff members and with parents to implement recommendations in students assessments
Requires flexibility, understanding, adaptability, familiarity with characteristic strengths and weaknesses of various types of learners, and skills to address the individuals learning style
Requirements:
Membership with the Teachers Regulation Branch Professional Certification
Familiarity with Learning Disabilities and Best Practices for students with Special Needs is desirable but not a prerequisite to applying
Strong classroom management skills, a love for children, and being a team player are essential
