Pay Band 8 - $27.00 to $30.00/hr

The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPR) offers a world-class education for approximately 34,000 students in 87 schools. As part of our strategy to provide on-going support for our schools, the Board is now accepting resumes from qualified applicants for the full-time positions Maintenance Repair Technician.

The purpose of the Maintenance Repair Technician position is to provide maintenance and repairs on facility services equipment and maintain updated detailed records showing history of repairs for each piece of equipment.

Main Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a training program for training of new casuals and retraining of current staff on proper use and maintenance of facility services equipment.

Maintaining up to date training records.

Regularly reviews and inspects equipment to ensure optimal safety.

Inspects, operates, and tests custodial equipment, such as vacuum motors, auto-scrubbers, snow blowers, lawn mowers and other small equipment to diagnose malfunctions.

Inspects custodial equipment to locate damages, defects or wear and tests equipment to ensure proper functioning.

Disassemble equipment to diagnose problems and determine how to correct them.

Dismantle custodial equipment by checking access and remove defective parts using hand tools or power tools.

Performs routine maintenance, such as inspecting motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters or doing other preventative maintenance actions.

Develops electronic custodial equipment tracking system and maintains up to date records on each piece of equipment outlining inspection dates, equipment repair dates and detailed description on each repair.

Researches, and correctly applies, technical information that is required when performing maintenance repairs.

Completes seasonal servicing and annual inspections of equipment.

Safely transports chemicals, in a Board vehicle to various locations.

Maintain inventory of repair equipment and supplies.

Identifies and makes recommendations for Supervisor's assessment of items for normal repair and replacement.

Research new equipment and make recommendations to management on equipment purchases.

Assist/complete work with scissors lift (light changes, vent/light fixture cleaning etc.)

Supporting trade employee when extra help is needed for which no specific trade certification is required.

Schedule and take maintenance vans for service as required/ requested

Assist with sports fields maintenance

When full time employee is off or when assistance is required

Includes utilizing the mule (dedicated field use)

Perform well water test at well schools when requested

Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Manager of Maintenance Services.

Education & Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Small Water Drinking Systems certificate

1 to 3 years recent experience working with small engines and equipment (such as; auto-scrubbers, vacuums, snow blowers, lawn movers, etc.)

1 to 3 years experience working with electronic inventory systems.

Experience developing a preventative maintenance program.

Willing to obtain, and successfully complete specific maintenance equipment repair training provided by employer.

Small Engine Technician Certificate, Appliance Repair Technician, other mechanical training certificate is considered an asset

Specialized Skills:

Valid drivers license.

A commitment to service excellence.
