Description
The successful candidate will have expertise working with students with a variety of mild, moderate, and severe special needs and the ability to permeate all teaching with a Biblical worldview. Other responsibilities will include:
taking a strength-based approach to individualizing educational programs, including transition
planning
monitoring behavioral patterns of students and applying appropriate interventions when
necessary
evaluating student progress, providing timely feedback to students and reporting results to
parents and school officials
collaborating with other staff members
attending staff meetings, inspections, case conferences and professional development
creating/finding and implementing meaningful and engaging learning activities
leading and directing instructional assistants in the classroom
preparing and implementing remedial literacy and numeracy programs
project based learning
Skills and Qualifications
excellent knowledge of special education topics and methodologies
ability to remain calm in stressful situations
ability to adapt to a changing environment
excellent organizational skills
excellent verbal and written communication skills
excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
ability to solve problems with creative thinking
Training and Education
Bachelor of Education degree or higher certification in education
Must be eligible for (interim or permanent) Alberta Teaching Certificate
Additional training or certification in working with students with behavioral/physical/medical/developmental and/or cognitive disabilities is an asset.
Bible college credentials are also an asset.
Salary
Salary is commensurate with education and years of experience.
Emmaus Learning Community is a fully accredited, Evangelical Christian independent school for students in grades 1 to 12 with learning differences, located in Red Deer, Alberta. It has been approved as a new Designated Special Education Private School and opened its doors to students in September 2022. Due to growth, expansion of staffing is required.
