JOB SUMMARY

The Elementary Teacher will provide a variety of experiences that foster the childs aesthetic and artistic development, emotional, social, and cultural development, intellectual and physical development. It is important to value the contributions and needs of the parents and to work in partnership with them to provide a meaningful educational program.

SUPPORTS NEEDED

Collaborate with fellow teachers on Smart Goals, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Behaviour Intervention Plans (IBPs), Safety Plans, attendance, report cards, and interim reports.

Curriculum development and delivery following BC Curricular Content and Competencies as set out by the Ministry of Education for BC

Manage time between grade specific instruction and class combined instruction.

Assist and team teach in other classes as well as with Language and Culture programming, as needed.

Assist with musical instruction when required.

Identify ways to help and support student learning through intervention strategies.

Prepare and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs), maintain records and progress reports.

Continually assess student progress and make recommendations for program changes, ensuring IEP goals are met.

Integrate special needs children in a positive and respectful manner.

Ensure students work and corrections are complete and assist students in meeting deadlines; follow up on work missed due to absences.

Classroom supervision and management and supervise field trips and other supervision duties as required.

Be a positive role model for behaviour and practice respectful student/adult interactions.

Implement positive discipline when required, conflict management of students incidents.

All persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.

Perform other duties as required.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

Monitor, record and report student success according to Individual Education Plans

Provide information to the Director of Education/Principal regarding assigned students required for FNESC reporting.

Follow all guidelines as outlined in the Cultural Immersion School Parent-Teacher Handbook

Develop and maintain current, accurate and confidential student files.

Keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their childs progress.

To give recommendations to the Vice Principal on the selection of materials and teaching aides according to the curriculum plans.

Participate in staff meetings, professional development, training, and conferences.

Develop daily activity plans and monitor the program budget.

Report writing including first aid incident, attendance, and behavioural incident reports.

Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies and procedures.

Participate in community events as requested.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR

You have education, experience, or carry a willingness to learn. You are community-minded, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator.

Valid BC teaching certificate issued by the Teacher Regulation Branch

Bachelor of Education, or equivalent

Current First Aid/CPR certificate or willing to obtain.

Demonstrated ability to teach at an elementary level.

Ability to teach split classes and team teach all classes within the school (grades K4-G7)

Experience working with First Nations preferred.

Preference will be given to qualified Aboriginal Applicants as per section 41 of the Human Rights Code .
