High School T eacher at Kitasoo Community School

Start date: August 28, 2024

Kitasoo Xai'xais Nation is seeking a student-focused, team-oriented grades 8 to 12 teacher to provide a highly successful learning experience for our students for the 2024/2025 school year. This teacher would be a flexible, outgoing, positive professional who would teach a variety of high school courses. The successful candidate would collaborate with the high school team to teach a broad range of courses (for graduation).

Kitasoo Community School is a bright, modern, and spacious, Indigenous K4 to grade 12 school located in the beautiful village of Klemtu on the Pacific Central Coast of British Columbia. Klemtu is surrounded by pristine wilderness in the Great Bear Rainforest. Wildlife abounds, from eagles to bears, sea otters to sea lions and whales. Kayak on the weekends (with one of the school's six boats), canoe on the nearby lake (in a community canoe), or hike through old-growth forests. Applicants who enjoy participating in outdoor activities will truly enjoy this position and all it has to offer.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, experience, and skills:

BC Teacher Certification

Bachelor of Education (or higher)

The ability and energy to work with multi-age groups and meet the needs of students with a range of learning styles and abilities using a variety of teaching strategies

Actively work closely with staff in a team-oriented approach to teaching and learning

Ability to embed local Indigenous culture and ways of knowing into teaching practices

An interest in outdoor land-based education

Strong classroom management skills

Communication and interpersonal skills: ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate and respectful manner

High standards of professional conduct and professional excellence; effective and innovative practice; lifelong learning and personal/ professional growth

Job Duties:

Teach a range of secondary courses in high school grades.

Plan and implement the re-designed BC Curriculum.

Communicate with students, and parents/guardians.

Work with colleagues as part of a collaborative team.

Use assessment, diagnosis and intervention techniques for students who experience learning difficulties.

Implementing and support students in outdoor, place-based lessons in the Great Bear Rainforest.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range $65, 494.00 115,692 per annum, based upon education and experience (based upon the School District No. 49 Central Coast Teachers' Salary Grid)
