Description
The Cardiac Device Technologist works independently to perform various diagnostic cardiac examinations within the pacemaker clinic completing device interrogations, post-operative wound assessments and patient implant education. Assists in the delivery of treatment including intraoperative assessments and device interrogations during pacemaker implants. Other duties include establishing intravenous access, medication administration and monitoring of patients during transesophageal and dobutamine stress examinations as required. Occasional coverage for the device triage coordinator. Other duties as required.
What must you have?
- Pacemaker Certification from IBHRE is required.
- Registered Cardiac Technologist in good standing with Ontario Society of Cardiology Technologists (OSCT) or Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists (CSCT) required.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.
- Must pass an Arrhythmia quiz obtaining an 80% to move onto interview phase
What else do you bring?
- Must have a minimum of 2 years’ recent experience in a full-service cardiac device lab
- Experience in a Pacemaker Clinic, Cardiology laboratory with emphasis in Cardiac Stress Testing Holter Hook-Up and analysis, and Nuclear Perfusion Studies; in a hospital setting required.
- Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard.
- Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital-related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.
- Related allied health program, diploma mandatory (preferred three-year BSc degree) with relevant work experience.
- Venipuncture certification preferred
- Strong background in cardiovascular physiology, electrocardiography and rhythm interpretation is essential
- Knowledge of Cardiac Implanted Electronic Devices including testing, assessment, and programming desirable, with one year of device experience preferred
- Experience in an O.R setting and sterile procedure set-up is an asset.
- Recent experience in the care of the Post Cardiac Device Implantation, patient preferred
- Experience assisting with Dobutamine Stress Echo’s an asset
- Experience with preparation/recovery Transesophageal Echocardiogram procedures an asset.
- Experience with preparation/recovery Transesophageal Echocardiogram
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated excellent critical thinking, decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to function both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to adapt in a fast paced environment

- Excellent attendance, punctuality and work record required
- Experience in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications is essential
