About the Role
Your Responsibilities
  • Lead and/or support R&D projects and prototyping programs within Promatek or working closely with Cosma divisions.
  • Must be capable of handling projects from inception to completion. (i.e. timing, concept, feasibility, design, construction, try-out, launch, engineering changes, etc.).
  • Prepare reports, charts and other documentation required for engineering records and projects (i.e. timelines, budgets, scope of work, technological findings, etc.).
  • Setup, operate and program complex machines, i.e. arc, resistance, laser welding equipment, robots, lab and tensile equipment.
  • Run experiments as per the Welding Engineer’s or Project Coordinator’s instructions.
  • Create patent applications.
  • Able to complete hands on work requiring heavy lifting for prototyping or R&D trials.
  • Able to run basic machine shop equipment ie. lathe and milling machine.
  • Able to complete tooling changes on equipment.
  • Support divisions as required.
  • Provide product design direction based on part manufacturability.
  • Other duties as required.

  • Travel may be required occasionally. Note: some of the travel may be outside North America.

  • Ensure all safety and non-safety plant rules and regulations are followed.
  • Ensure adherence to established quality and housekeeping standards.
  • Review and adhere to Promatek’s health & safety, environmental, operating procedures, and policies.
  • Understand and uphold the principles of Bill 168 which prohibits domestic violence, workplace violence, and workplace harassment.
  • In addition to the above, the duties include those specified under the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Sec. 28.
Who we are looking for
Your preferred qualifications
  • Welding Engineering Technologist diploma or equivalent college diploma with a minimum of 3 years of practical field experience (Automotive preferred).
  • Working experience with industrial arc, resistance, and laser welding equipment.
  • Robot programming (Fanuc, ABB, Panasonic, Motoman, etc).
  • Skillful knowledge of welding, welding standards and weld test procedures.
  • Robot programming (Fanuc, ABB, Kuka, Panasonic, Motoman, etc)
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and determination attributes.
  • Technical Report writing.
  • Excellent communication (English), organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Laser operation and safety knowledge beneficial.
  • Valid Passport and Driver’s License required.
