Strategic Growth Manager – Sustainable Meats

The Opportunity: As one of the only CPG companies to be headquartered in Canada, a career in marketing at Maple Leaf offers you a unique opportunity to develop strategies and act as the general manager of a business, rather than work at a satellite office. The Strategic Growth Manager of Sustainable Meats is responsible to build a pipeline of long-term strategic growth opportunities that will drive the profitable growth of our Sustainable Meats business across all of our Prepared Foods categories across all geographies. They will partner effectively with experts in Category Marketing, Brand, Supply Chain and Operations and Sales to develop winning strategies that build our brands and plug into our customer strategies. They will be experts on the Sustainable Meat commercial industry (including raised without antibiotics, organic and animal welfare). This position needs to balance strategic skills with critical thinking, financial acumen, and performance measurement. The successful candidate will be someone who wants to build a commercial career in CPG and brings a passion for large strategic problem solving and delivering winning results

  • Develop sustainable meats strategies that capitalize on our points of difference, brand positions, and customer priorities to drive channel growth and share gains
  • Deliver competitive differentiation via new claims and product innovation supporting long term growth and future proofing our business
  • Survey the market to understand what claims are most important with consumers, and become an expert on the competitive environment
  • Optimize for shared raw material across categories to deliver the best outcome for Maple Leaf, our customers and our consumers
  • Work closely with our Sales team' to understand and execute against specific customer strategies or tactics
  • Consistently leverage data and develop insights from Nielsen and internal data sources to provide category share and financial reporting and analysis for the category, including weekly, monthly, and annual rhythms as well as ad hoc analyses
  • Analyze consumer, market, and competitive trends and recommend suitable actions
  • Support our brand building and Ad & Promo initiatives as a Subject Matter Expert
  • Participate in MLFs annual budgeting and five-year planning process and inform our mid to long term supply requirements
What Youll Bring:
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Must be proactive and performance driven, have a bias for action and be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with the ability to adapt easily to changing market dynamics.
  • Proven experience in managing large, complex business challenges with an entrepreneurial mindset and strong commercial acumen to drive results.
  • A strong team player, mentor and coach to cross-functional team members with well-developed people interaction skill set.
  • Competency requirements:
      • Strategic Thinking Ability to analyze, evaluate and simplify complex issues, identifying opportunities and risks.
      • Critical Thinking and Insights Able to analyze and draw conclusions and insights from internal & external data sources demonstrated through building, tracking, and course correcting business plans to achieve targets.
      • Commercial Acumen and P&L Management Solid understanding of key drivers of the P&L with ability to recommend changes required to move the business forward.
      • Agility and Effectiveness Able to stay focused on driving key business priorities in a dynamic business environment.
      • Sales Knowledge and Connectivity Demonstrate understanding of customer strategies and motivations and applies accordingly to marketing planning process & initiative execution.
      • Leadership and Influence Skilled in mobilizing and motivating cross functional teams to achieve commercial objectives. Able to get work done through others.
      • Strategic Leadership Demonstrate big picture thinking with an ability to clearly articulate a strategic direction, justified with sound fact-based rationale. Sells ideas and recommendations through to management convincingly.
