Continuing Education Teacher - Personal Support Worker Program

The Near North District School Board invites applications for the following Instructor position commencing

immediately.

Location:

Placement supervisor for North Bay, Cassellholme region. Supervisor may have students in various locations and therefore, some travel may be necessary.

Position :

Near North District School Board is pleased to offer the Personal Support Worker certification within our Continuing Education Program. The Near North District School Board, through the Ontario Association of Adult and Continuing Education School Board Administrators, offers Personal Support Worker (PSW) certification to mark successful completion of the program. The PSW certification is recognized by the Long-Term Care Association of Ontario. Graduating students gain secondary school credits, co-operative education experience and certification as graduates of the program.

Continuing Education positions are contract positions expected to begin in September of 2024 (dependent on student enrollment).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Engage students using a systematic plan that consists of demonstrations, discussion groups, interactive activities, independent and group learning

Support the development of practical curriculum and prepare learning that can be housed and accessed through the Learning Management System (LMS)

Administer assessments and evaluate student progress toward learning goals - specific to placement

Provide timely and explicit feedback to adult students - specific to placement experience and skills

Attend regular collaborative team meetings

Adhere to the program standards - CESBA, MOE, MLTC, NNDSB

Maintain student daily attendance using online tools

Maintain and update student files (as required)

Maintain a valid Class G Driver’s License and reliable vehicle

The PSW program typically begins each school year in September and again in February (2 intakes per year). The program runs for a total of 660 hours and includes classroom learning time, clinical/lab instruction and clinical or community placements for students. The student placement portion is approximately 330 hours.

Education and Experience

Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse qualifications and at least five years’ experience is required. Candidates who have experience working in the health care field, with PSW experience, are ideal candidates for this position. Preference will be given to applicants who are also Certified Teachers registered with the Ontario College of Teachers and those with experience working in a long-term care setting.

Please note that non-qualified teachers who hold the other required qualifications may apply to this posting, with the intention of teaching under a “Letter of Permission” from the Ministry of Education (as arranged by NNDSB upon hiring).
