This position will report to the Metallurgical Superintendent. This position interacts with the Metallurgical Technicians, Mill Shifters, Mill Operators, Mill Planners, Millwrights, and Assayers and will be responsible for performing circuit sampling and bench-scale testing.
- Perform plant sampling and laboratory testwork to ensure optimum metallurgical operation of the mill- this includes sampling of the crushing, grinding, gravity, leach, carbon in pulp (CIP), elution, and electrowinning circuits
- Perform laboratory testwork to ensure the key operating parameters are optimized
- Assist the Metallurgical Superintendent and other Metallurgists in preparing, planning, and executing new projects, which add value to the operation
- Compile key performance operating data for actioning by the Metallurgical Team
- Routinely analyze data so that proactive actions may be taken to ensure optimal operation
Safety & Sustainability Expectations
- Ensure that Newmont Porcupine safety policies and procedures are fully understood and followed while performing circuit sampling and bench-scale testing
- Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in the metallurgical laboratory
Metallurgical Excellence
- Work closely with the Metallurgical Coordinator, Metallurgical Technicians, Refiner & Operations in achieving optimum gold production, throughput, recovery, and consumable costs
- Execute continuous improvement projects that are identified and proposed by the Metallurgical Superintendent in an organized and timely manner
- Compile and present key performance data so that the Metallurgists can effectively analyze and evaluate overall mill performance on a daily basis
- Assist the Metallurgical Team in troubleshooting and debottlenecking of the milling operation.
Safety Compliance
- Work safely at all time and ensure that Newmont Porcupine safety policies and standard operating procedures are fully understood and followed.
- May be responsible for monitoring and improving safety performance of summer metallurgical students working in the metallurgical laboratory and performing circuit sampling.
- Responsible for keeping a high standard of housekeeping in the metallurgical laboratory.
Planning
- Participate in metallurgical meetings and provide applicable updates.
- Assist Metallurgists in the preparation of new projects that are to be submitted to Metallurgical Superintendent/Mill Manager for approval.
- Submit weekly work schedules and progress reports to the Metallurgical Superintendent/Metallurgists.
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical, Mining, or Chemical Engineering in progress (should be eligible/registered in their university’s co-op program)
- Pre-graduation experience in a metallurgical laboratory, pilot plant, or operating processing plant is highly regarded
- A basic understanding of gold milling operation would be an asset
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Must have a positive attitude and committed to make changes that will positively impact costs and/or gold production
- Must be able to communicate openly and effectively with mill employees
- The schedule for this role is 4x3, at 10.5 hours a day.
- Seeking candidates interested in a 12 or 16 month co-op placement.
