Newmont is seeking an Operational Intelligence Engineer to provide process control analytical solutions across our global mining operations. Utilising advanced process analysis techniques and technologies visualised through real-time monitoring systems, this strategic role bridges process control engineering, data analytics, and metallurgical expertise to transform our minerals processing data into actionable insights.
As our Operational Intelligence Engineer, you will leverage tools such as AVEVA OSIsoft PI (OSI PI), PI Asset Framework, PI Vision, Microsoft Power BI, Grafana, SEEQ, MS Excel, Python, MATLAB, R, Azure and emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications, to provide descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive insights into our sites process control operational data. You will collaborate with central operational support, process control engineering, digital, metallurgical and site operational teams to develop analytical studies, continuous monitoring and/or closed loop process control solutions that have a direct impact on the stabilisation of mineral processing, maximization of minerals recovery, and reduction of production costs.
Your expertise will help us make smarter decisions faster, maintain process stability, and continuously improve our production process controls. Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:
- Design and implement process control analytics solutions that enhance the control systems ability to increase mineral recovery, reduce cost, and improve overall plant efficiency
- Create and maintain real-time monitoring systems for process control systems, critical processes and instrumentation
- Create and maintain continuous real-time process control monitoring solutions focusing on Short Interval Control (SIC)
- Create and maintain soft-sensor solutions that can be utilised for closed loop process control
- Collaborate with centralised and site-based metallurgists, operational support engineers, digital SME’s, process control engineers and plant operators to implement closed-loop control strategies focused towards stabilising and optimizing grinding circuits, flotation circuits, and leaching processes
- Provide production insights via ad hoc analysis of historical process control data utilizing descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analysis techniques and technologies
- Establish and maintain KPI dashboards
- Develop and maintain a centralized library of best practices for process analytics applications
- Lead training sessions on process control analytics tools and mentor site-based technical resources
- Participate in global mining process optimization initiatives and contribute to the community of practice
- Minimum 3 years' experience in process control improvements, with significant operational experience in mineral processing or metallurgy
- Industry qualifications in an associated field such as Data Science, Metallurgy, Process Control, IT.
- Applied knowledge of AVEVA OSIsoft PI historian and PI Asset Framework systems
- Data visualization using commercial-off-the-shelf products (i.e., AVEVA PI Vision, MS Power BI, Grafana, SEEQ, MS Excel) or programmatic methods (i.e., Python, MATLAB, R)
- Demonstrated success implementing analytical solutions within the mineral processing industry
- Experience with crushing, grinding, flotation, leaching processes.
- Strong understanding of mining-specific process variables, recovery calculations, and metallurgical accounting principles
- Advanced computer literacy (word, excel, databases, statistical tools)
- Skills in analytical story telling via building easy to read and to the point dashboarding
- Applied knowledge of advanced process analytics techniques and technologies
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to operational teams
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to identify and engage key stakeholders for collaboration
- Customer-oriented, enjoys making connections and building trust with people both in-person and at remote locations
- Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
- Active team player who celebrates and promotes team successes
The role is global in nature, encompassing work at various sites as well as remote work from home. It demands significant flexibility in roster arrangements to meet the diverse business needs across multiple site locations.
Suitably qualified candidates from North and South America’s outside of British Columbia may be considered.
Domestic and international travel may be required to support site-based teams and initiatives.
Normal schedule work is from Monday to Friday. Flexible hours are required to accommodate the global nature of the work.

The expected salary range for this role is CAD $ 126,100 - 149,720. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
