Purpose

Reporting to the Mine Coordinators, the successful candidate will be responsible for: Leading the Underground Longhole Drill & Blast Department; allocating personnel and equipment resources effectively to ensure safe achievement of forecast. Planning and preparing work sites, personnel, and equipment required for upcoming work. Developing a cross-functional workforce, ensuring adequate staffing levels, while planning for vacation and other leave. Supporting the day to day requirements of the Mine Department’s contract business partners with a strong focus on the safe and efficient execution of contracts. Manage all aspects of project performance including costs, schedule, quality and reporting at Newmont’s Musselwhite Mine.

Responsibilities
  • Working closely with Engineering, plan daily tasks for blasting, production drilling, and support activities.
  • Supervise Longhole Drillers, Cablebolters, Loader/Blasters, and Trainees, visiting work places of all employees each shift.
  • Develop and maintain plans so that each shift is covered for absenteeism, training and planned absences.
  • Read and accurately interpret engineering prints.
  • Report and investigate near misses, incidents and accidents.
  • Manage underground projects and assign daily, weekly, and monthly work tasks including performance tracking.
  • Manage change orders, notices and revisions.
  • Ensure all work is executed to the required standards and company policies and procedures.
  • Work in a healthy work environment with full support, cooperation and commitment to satisfy our operation’s goal of being accident-free.
  • Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • College diploma or degree preferred but will consider a secondary school diploma with extensive experience and certificates.
  • 5-10 years of underground mining experience, with 2-5 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Completion of the Ontario Supervisor’s Common Core program (#P770121).
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others and initiate change that yields positive results in terms of safety, production and cost management in the Mine Department.
  • Highly effective communication skills, organization, detailed planning and execution.
  • Strong understanding of underground mining equipment/techniques, drawings/specifications, and required standards applicable to discipline.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with external and internal partnerships of the Mine Department.
  • A high level of flexibility to adapt to changes as necessitated by the business.
  • Strong commitment to seeking efficiency and productivity improvements.
  • Proficient computer literacy.
Working Conditions

The work schedule for this position is 14 days on 14 days off.
