About this role
The Procurement Specialist plays a key role in the effective management of procurement strategy, service acquisition and contract monitoring at the mine site. Under the supervision of the Procurement Manager, the Procurement Specialist will be responsible for various tasks related to contract management, sourcing and negotiation of commercial terms.
Essential Duties
  • Assist in the management of contracts relating to expenditure categories for the mine site.
  • Participate in the preparation of tenders and related documentation.
  • Negotiate commercial and contractual arrangements in coordination with qualified subcontractors for the acquisition of services in accordance with operational requirements, seeking the best possible agreements in terms of total cost of ownership, terms and quality.
  • Collaborate with the Procurement Specialist to develop a comprehensive supplier sourcing plan for all mine site spend categories.
  • Identify and develop a network of suppliers in the marketplace to meet operational needs, focusing on categories such as earthworks, camp and catering services, road maintenance, equipment maintenance, and mining operations.
  • Establish a network of Aboriginal, First Nations (in Canada) and local subcontractors/suppliers, to develop business opportunities and maintain strong relationships.
  • Organize and deliver end-user and supplier training to communicate Newmont's contracting policies and procedures, in addition to establishing a clear scope of work.
  • Document the business case and benefits obtained for internal approval with the conclusion of new contracts.
  • Collaborate with regional and mine site management to report on TCO savings associated with new contracts, as part of the Full Potential - External Expenses / TCO program.
  • Support the supplier risk management program by working with suppliers.
Skills and competencies
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and English.
  • Excellent negotiation, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications effectively.
  • Strong influencing skills
Training & Experience
  • College diploma or equivalent experience in administration, supply chain, accounting or related field.
  • Development and execution of a procurement plan.
  • Knowledge of SAP or equivalent enterprise software required. Knowledge of Ariba is an asset.
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years' experience in procurement or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in mining is desirable, but not mandatory.
Working Conditions
  • The position reports to the Rouyn-Noranda office on a 5/2 schedule, Monday to Friday, with sporadic uptime at the mine site.
  • Full-time remote work possible.
