Purpose

To provide technical expertise to operators and management in the areas of ventilation, safety and health risks, and provide information and guidance to the operations, projects, and mine planning groups to ensure ventilation systems are designed, installed and maintained in accordance with engineering standards, regulations, and company standards.

Responsibilities
  • Keep up to date on developments within the industry and implement appropriate systems, concepts, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that ventilation recommendations are consistent and applicable.
  • Implement and direct ventilation installation quality control program.
  • Monitor performance of main ventilation system and give input into required infrastructure upgrades over long-term/life of mine plans
  • Provide design feedback and complete engineering reviews of long term ventilation designs and projects
  • The Mine VMP integrates other functions, disciplines, systems, processes, standards and guidelines to provide an overview of how the Ventilation System engineering work and day-to-day operation should be completed.
  • The Mine VMP should clearly define the scope of the Ventilation System, outline the scope of services to be executed, identify who is responsible for its completion, and describe where crossover of battery limits may occur.
  • The Ventilation Management Plan needs to detail ALL engineering that will be undertaken, as well as ALL standards, and guidelines that will be required for the project or mine operation.
  • Analyze models and implement technical improvements.
  • Communicate results to crews, supervision and technical staff.
  • Provide information to enable mine design decisions to consider ventilation principles, historical and potential seismicity, stress modeling results and geology.
  • Review complex or high-risk designs and make recommendations.
  • Develop and optimize macro and micro mining sequences to combat against ground control problems
  • Liaise with other mines and consultants with the intention of sharing information on best practice to reduce or eliminate ventilation risks and costs.
Requirements
  • Mining or Mechanical Engineering degree. Preferably a postgraduate degree in Mine Ventilation
  • Registration as a professional engineer in Ontario, or eligibility to attain within 12 months of hiring via transfer of license.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of ventilation engineering experience.
  • Knowledge sharing with members of the department. Good presentation skills. Effective communicator (oral, written, listening).
  • Proficiency in Deswik, VentSim, Microsoft Office.
Working Conditions

The individual is expected to work 12 hour shifts (minimum) and work on a 14 day on, 14 day off schedule.
