Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for an Underground Electrician, Lead Hand with a competitive hourly wage of $63.24 dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity with an additional short-term incentive of 10%.
The purpose of this position is to install and maintain electrical services by diagnosing and repairing electrical wiring, equipment problems in accordance with relevant codes and standards. The Underground Electrician, Lead Hand is accountable for the safe and timely provision of these services in an effective and efficient manner in accordance with all relevant codes and regulations.
- Promote a culture of full compliance with the Electrical Safety Program.
- Assist the Mill Maintenance E/I Supervisor (MMES) with conducting daily safety toolbox meetings and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Environment Analyses (JSEAs) to ensure mine personnel safety.
- Work closely with planners to ensure parts and tools are available for tasks.
- Schedule, coordinate, train, mentor, and supervise a team of electricians to ensure tasks and duties are clearly understood and successfully completed.
- Assist the MMES in supervising daily repair work to ensure effective utilization of manpower, materials, and equipment.
- Plan and coordinate project strategies and completion targets, including labor, material, and equipment requirements to meet objectives.
- Perform routine electrical maintenance of fixed and mobile equipment to required standards of performance and safety.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components for hazards and defects.
- Diagnose and repair malfunctioning electrical systems and components, using test equipment and hand tools to identify and correct problems.
- Read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings to determine wiring layouts.
- Plan and install equipment and fixtures based on job specifications.
- Design and install control panels and power distribution circuits.
- Provide daily updates in morning meetings to communicate electrical instrumentation, equipment, and control availability issues and actions.
- Follow up on daily electrical installation and maintenance repairs to ensure completion as planned.
- Establish methods to meet work schedules and coordinate activities with other supervisors or managers.
- Monitor and evaluate electrical components, controls, and equipment to minimize failures and downtime.
- Recommend changes to installations or maintenance procedures as necessary.
- Maintain electrical systems by conducting system tests and preventive maintenance.
- Ensure a safe work environment by following established codes, standards, and procedures.
- Test electrical systems and circuit continuity to ensure compatibility and safety.
- Coordinate work assignments and projects to meet deadlines.
- Prepare time estimates for work orders to optimize resource allocation.
- Valid inter-provincial Red Seal Electrician trade qualification
- A minimum of five years of maintenance experience in an industrial environment, along with at least three years of underground experience
- Previous Leadership Experience
- Knowledge of underground operations
- Familiar with the BC Mines Acts & Regulations
- Strong knowledge of Canadian codes (M421, Z462, CEC)
- Experience with Electric production/development equipment
- Ability to work at a remote location (camp) on a 13 days on/13 days off rotation.
- Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
- Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
- Be able to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts.
- Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions.
- Able to work in close quarters with the team.
