Description
Under the direction of the Asset Performance Program Manager, the Environmental Monitoring Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the design, development, installation, and maintenance of flow monitoring and climate networks. Specific duties encompass installing, configuring, and servicing flow monitoring equipment, climatological equipment and remote data acquisition systems, diagnosing equipment issues, analyzing trends and synthesizing findings into reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Graduate of a three-year diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Controls Systems and/or Automation Technology or Computer/Network Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience OR a Certificate of Qualification under the Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act as a Certified Industrial Electrician (309A/442A) and a graduate of a two-year diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology.
- Additional training or experience in various applications such as AutoCAD, application programming, flow monitoring/verification, telemetry data acquisition, and programmable data is an asset.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 3 to 4 years of experience in flow monitoring and associated data collection equipment repair is required.
- Experience with onsite equipment calibration methods is an asset.
- Familiarity with data acquisition technologies such as Radio Frequency (RF) and cellular modems is an asset.
- Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD), specifically 3-D modeling is an asset.
- Experience in the evaluation of hydrological and hydraulic data is an asset.
- Experience in municipal/environmental engineering projects is an asset.
- Knowledge of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) networks is required.
- Must possess working knowledge of MS Office, advanced statistical procedures, computer programming, and computer applications.
- Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) certification as a Class I Wastewater Collection Operator is preferred.
- Must be certified or eligible for certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technician and Technologists (OACETT) as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Certified Technician (C.Tech).
SKILLS
- Must be able to interpret civil engineering drawings, pump charts, flow tables, mathematical formulas and equations.
- Capable of writing short computer programs or scripts for data analysis and instrument programming.
- Must possess the ability to direct contractors.
- Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Must possess training in WHMIS, Confined Space Entry/Rescue, CPR, First Aid and Electrical Safety.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Must work without direct supervision.
- Must be able to supervise and train staff or others.
- In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate.
- Must comply with all aspects of the Regional Respiratory Program Policy. Respiratory Fit Test mandatory.
- Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted specified driver's licence for to the class of vehicle operated (Class G).
- Must be willing to complete other training and/or certification.
