Motor Vehicle Mechanic Float

Perform all aspects of motor vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair pertaining to the municipal fleet. Undertake diagnosis, preventative maintenance, repairs, safety inspections, and other related maintenance duties. Input information into fleet systems and databases, with accuracy.

• Completion of Grade 12, plus trade schooling as required under the regulated trades as an Automotive Service Technician (310S) and a Truck and Coach Technician (310T).

• Minimum of 7 years, including 13,000 hours [9000 hours for the first apprenticeship (310S or 310T) and 4000 for the second apprenticeship (310T or 310S)] as specified under the Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act.
• Must possess and maintain a Certificate of Qualification under the Apprenticeship and Trades Qualification Act as an Automotive Service Technician (310S) and a Truck and Coach Technician (310T).
• Must possess working knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act and Regulations.

• Must possess an excellent knowledge of Fleet Maintenance operations and computerized fleet management systems.
• Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid is an asset.
• Must be customer focused.
• Proven written and verbal communication skills.

• Must supply own mechanic tools.
• Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted class "DZ" license for the class of the vehicle operated.
• Must maintain ability to travel in a timely manner to all Fleet locations in the Niagara Region.
• Must be willing to complete other training and/or certification such as Hoisting and Rigging, Air Brake Adjustment, etc.
• Must complete WHMIS training.
• Subject to standby duty and on call.
