Job Description
JOB SUMMARY

Perform all aspects of motor vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair pertaining to the municipal fleet. Undertake diagnosis, preventative maintenance, repairs, safety inspections, and other related maintenance duties. Input information into fleet systems and databases with accuracy.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

  • Must hold a Skilled Trades Ontario Qualification as a Truck and Coach Technician (310T) and an Automotive Service Technician (310S). May be considered if in possession of one license (310T preferred), subject to obtaining the other within a specified period of time.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a Truck and Coach Technician (310T) and Automotive Service Technician (310S) apprenticeship, as per Skilled Trades Ontario is required. May be considered if completed one apprenticeship (310T preferred), subject to completing the other within a specified period of time.

  • Minimum 5 years working experience as a journeyman.

  • Considerable working knowledge of the standard methods, tooling equipment and safety practices as they relate to heavy truck/equipment and automobile repair industry.

  • Must have a good working/mechanical knowledge of all equipment as it relates to municipal fleets and be able to drive/operate equipment in a safe manner.

  • Must possess working knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act and Regulations.

SKILLS

  • Must possess an excellent knowledge of municipal fleet maintenance operations and computerized fleet management systems.

  • Certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an asset.

  • Must be customer focused.

  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must supply own mechanic tools.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted class license for the class of the vehicle operated (Class DZ). If not currently DZ licensed, may be considered, subject to becoming class DZ licensed, within a specified period of time.

  • Must be willing to complete other training and/or certification as required (e.g. Hoisting and Rigging, Air Brake Adjustment, etc.)

  • Must complete WHMIS training.

  • Subject to standby (on-call) duty.
