Description
The Learning Commons Facilitator is expected to promote and facilitate the use of quality learning resources in multiple formats and provide exposure to a wide variety of Canadian and international resources (fiction and nonfiction) which reflect multiple perspectives, promote literacy and numeracy, and develop students' interests and competencies beyond the school setting. A learning commons is an inclusive, flexible, learner-centred, physical and/or virtual space for collaboration, inquiry, imagination and play to expand and deepen learning.
Successful candidate responsibilities:
Supporting the instructional programs at the school
Collaborate with other staff to update and catalogue resources
Promoting and supporting the use of technology including online resources
Facilitate learning of Indigenous knowledge and ways
Planning and running learning commons classes for a diverse group of learners
Maintain set-up functions, input and retrieve data and reports utilizing the automated Library program and perform circulation control functions.
Work with teachers and School Administration to plan programs and approaches to support student learning
Preference will be given to candidates who:
Have experience/willingness to work with young people in a school setting
Ability to read out loud in an engaging manner to help develop a love of reading in all students
Are ready to learn about and further develop the Learning Commons area
Are willing to collaborate with school staff to explore use of the Learning Commons
Have experience working in a library setting
Are self-motivated
Enjoys working in a team environment
Have strong interpersonal and communication skills
Have an understanding of the teaching/learning process

Hours of work:
30 hours per week
Wage Rate:
Teacher Assistant - $17.31/hour - $26.38/hour depending on qualifications and experience
Learning Commons Facilitator - - $18.00/hour - $29.47/hour depending on qualifications and experience
