What can I expect to do in this role?In this job you will:
• Provide leadership to the solutions team in the areas of database structures, policies, standards, and operating processes and operating issues
• Liaise with service management on processes and standards that are interrelated with service management functions
• Consult with clients and analyze data processing and data management requirements
• Conduct or co-ordinate development and analysis of data management options
• Co-ordinate and participate on database design and development projects including developing project plans and identifying necessary resources
• Provide leadership and guidance to project team
• Plan and co-ordinate database system implementation, including establishing testing processes
• Establish and manage the database and data administration functions
• Provide technical advice and guidance in reviewing and developing recommendations on use of new information engineering and data management administration tools, techniques and methodologies
• Provide input into development and maintenance of ministry information technologies standards and plans
• Participate as technical advisor on committees
How do I qualify?Information Technology Knowledge• You have experience of current and emerging diverse database management (i.e. Microsoft SQL Server), Cloud (Azure SQL & Synapse) Tools, Automation (i.e. .NET Framework, C# (C-Sharp), PowerShell etc) , network (i.e. SQL* Net, JDBC and/or ODBC Connect) and data security, software and hardware architecture
• You have experience in Microsoft SQL Server database administration and working within a complex multi-technology (i.e Siebel & EBS, Oracle and/or DB2 RDBMS), Data Integration ELT/ETL (Informatica PowerCenter, Azure Data Factory (ADF), GoldenGate etc.), Scripting (PL/SQL, Perl and Shell), multi-platform n-tier integrated inter-dependent environment such as AIX, Unix and/or Linux, variant and/or MS Windows operating systems.
• You have knowledge of ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) principles, roles and responsibilities of best practices for IT application support, including IT Service Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Incident, Problem, Change and Release Management
• You have knowledge of current IT methodologies (systems analysis, design, software development, testing and implementation methods, database management, change management, applications, integrated networking and security)
• Knowledge of data management and information architecture theory, principles and techniques
• Knowledge of data modelling techniques using computer aided software and use of information engineering tools
• Knowledge of micro/personal computer system technologies, application and database management software
• Knowledge of database development methodology, programming languages and database concepts
• Knowledge of testing and implementation methods and practices
Analytical & Problem Solving Skills• Ability to analyze client data management requirements by assessing options and conducting feasibility studies
• Ability to advise clients on short/long term strategies relating these to business plans
• Ability to develop policies, standards, procedures for administration of database systems
• Ability to design testing procedures, co-ordinate acceptance testing and consultation with clients
• Ability to research and assess potential use of new information engineering and data management techniques, methodologies, software and hardware
• Ability to develop and recommend policies, standards and procedures for operating issues
Communication & Interpersonal Skills• Written communication skills to prepare and draft technical reports, manuals, policies and procedures
• Oral communication skills to interview clients about technical needs, business plans and strategies
• Ability to present formal and informal training sessions
• Ability to discuss data management requirements and illustrate feasibility and advantages or disadvantages
• Ability to effectively negotiate contracts for services, hardware and software with vendors, within defined parameters
Project Management Skills• Ability to co-ordinate design, analyze and develop databases and data management structures, data dictionaries, data storage and retrieval techniques
• Ability to identify parameters, method and scope for review of data flow, data management and decision-making processes
• Ability to conducting feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses
• Ability to develop project plans, data management structures and overall database design requirements and standards
• Ability to coordinate design, development and testing of databases
