The Opportunity

January 2025- April 2025

Are you curious to learn more about the risks taken by Ontario Teachers’ investment professionals? Do you want to get more exposure to asset/liability management and portfolio construction while working with data modelling and visualization?

Working within the Investment Risk team, you will have the chance to work with analytic tools to understand the impact of asset mix decisions. This role will provide opportunities to learn about factors impacting asset/liability balance at a pension plan, asset classes and their risk and return characteristics, and risk metrics used when considering portfolio suitability.

Who you’ll work with

Working closely with a team of data scientists and investment analysts, the work will be project-based ranging from half a day to the full-term projects. Working out of our Toronto office on a hybrid basis with flexible hours and additional travelling will not be involved.

What you’ll do

As an Intern within our Investment Risk team, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work with asset/liability model to determine impact of changes in portfolio and economic assumptions
  • Conduct analysis on simulation results and risk metrics
  • Present data for audience consumption in Power BI
  • Review financial documents and compare reported data from different asset managers

What you'll need

  • Have a good understanding of asset classes and how they contribute to a portfolio
  • Have familiarity of the operations of a pension plan in terms of assets and liabilities
  • Have a statistical background and understanding of risk measures
  • Concentration in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance or related field
  • Be enrolled in 3rd / 4th year or related Master’s program
  • Experience working with data visualization is helpful
  • Knowledge of Python is helpful
  • Understanding of financial documents is an asset
  • Previous work term experience preferred
  • Machine learning, AI projects and interests are a plus
  • You must be enrolled in a co-op program or returning back to your studies after the work term is completed
