Senior Product Owner, Financial Management Reporting

The opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Product Owner to join our Financial Management & Reporting Product team, focused on enabling capabilities within our general ledger accounting and budgeting, forecasting systems. As the Senior Product Owner, you act as the voice of the business and effectively communicate desired business outcomes, key use cases, and product requirements; working closely with the product team to develop creative solutions with new and existing tools that increase the range of business capabilities. You will collaborate with Finance business partners to understand their strategy and drive the overall product strategy through an effective product roadmap that aligns to and supports our vision of the FMR Product Team at Teachers’.

Who you'll work with

The Senior Product Owner works to identify and prioritize features that meet the needs of a diverse set of business partners across the Finance division, ensuring organizational alignment and communicating partner needs in the form of story maps, product roadmap, and user stories in the product backlog. You will work closely with development team members (Developers, QA) and the Scrum Master to provide clarity, refinement and suitable detail for each user story.

What you'll do

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a driver of “what” needs to be delivered for the business by providing direction and guidance on behalf of business partners

  • As part of the agile squad, acts as the decision maker around priority and delivering value

  • Bring product thinking, innovation and an incremental delivery approach to the Agile squad’s work and the organization as a whole

  • Collaborates with Agile Coaches, Scrum Masters & other Product Owners to advocate, foster and spread agile thinking, culture and behaviours in the organization, coach junior employees as needed

Product Responsibilities:

  • Makes customer engagement a central aspect of the work, effectively develops relationships, forums, and approaches which enable efficient and candid feedback on delivered work as well as upcoming priorities

  • Communicates effectively with multiple levels of client partners to clearly articulate delivery strategy and priorities to gain alignment with business goals, and build a culture of collaboration

  • Providing leadership and partner with architecture and development/engineering teams, ensuring alignment and guiding the design and build of business solutions

  • Manage competing priorities, develop, and maintain a well-organized roadmap, release strategy, and backlog of features & user stories, and clearly communicates what needs to be done

  • Understand OTPP’s Finance technology stack, including the business systems (Infor Financial Supply & Management, Anaplan, etc.), operational and processes that create business value, to clearly communicate and drive the desired outcome of FMR product work

  • Effectively identifies and communicates the value of work to the squad driving delivery alignment to expected outcomes and success criteria

  • Take ownership of outcomes including benefit realization and user adoption

  • Facilitate product demos to empower Squad members with real-time feedback from customers

  • Manage the FMR product lifecycle of new features, stay current on industry trends, and introduce new technologies, practices, and viewpoints to Teachers’

  • Applies product management techniques such as personas, story mapping, validated learning, product health models, OKRs, etc. at an advanced level, including leading the selection and implementation of the concepts based on the situation/context

What you'll need

  • 5+ years’ experience as a Product Owner with Agile delivery experience

  • Finance experience and knowledge in the general accounting context

  • Demonstrated experience with building or evolving products in a complex, matrixed organization, effectively handling competing priorities, setting product vision, objectives, success measures, successful adoption etc.

  • Experience delivering incremental business benefits with large scale, highly complex technical products

  • Ability to effectively communicate across multiple levels to encourage, influence and obtain alignment up, down and across the organization,

  • Relevant university degree

  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies, values, and principles

  • Ability to understand, empathize and bridge multiple perspectives e.g. Senior Leadership and technical specialists
